Weatherstrip on door

Hi All, I have ordered some weatherstripping from LMC and am installing it on the truck, which didn't have any at all. The on-the-cab weatherstrip went on no problem, but the doors have a hard time shutting all the way as it is very thick. I may have to adjust the door side of the hinge and the striker post if it doesn't squish down on its own over time.

But there is also a piece of weatherstripping that goes on the door:



Labelled 2 on that image from the LMC web site. There are LH and RH versions, I think they are identical except for which end has a small plastic pin in it. The pin has "fins" on it that look like it is designed to be pushed into a hole for location purposes. In the image above, it would appear that the pin end would be at the top rear of the door. But I don't see any hole there for the pin to go in. Consequently, I'm not sure if this should go all the way against the lip at the outside of the door, or if it should be somewhat inboard.

Does anybody have a photo of this installed on their truck that I could use for guidance?

I don't remember those having locating pins... But if your truck is an '81, it would not originally have had the upper weather strips. They were added mid 80's to combat wind noise. Best bet is to find a newer truck (up to '97) and copy the installation location.

Search on here there are several threads that show the exact location of the secondary seals, and no there are no locating holes.

Big Blue had the weatherstrip on the passenger's door but not the driver's door.    So I added new weatherstrip to both doors, as shown here: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Big-Blue-s-Transformation-tp28014p75073.html

I did try searching the forum beforehand, but all I found pertained to the on-cab side of things. Hopefully that will squish down soon, I have to slam the heck out of the doors to get them to latch all the way.

Give it some time and park in the warm sunshine when possible.
