Windshield removal

Recommended Posts

that's what I have lol,

LOL I find starting in down in the middle of the tape and when you start to pull it to tilt it just a bit so it will come up to the glass and cut between the glass & tape.

It is a fine line of getting the blade to be to the glass but not so much it puts pressure on it to crack the glass.

The blade that Jim showed fits in a power head and rocks side to side to cut the glue.

I have seen them but never used one and dont know if I would as I think it works to fast and would not be able to control it as needed.

My Fein tool has infinitely variable speed. It's pretty easy to control.

Also note that his windshield has been replaced.

So the butyl tape is gone, and it is probably fully cured urethane now.

That helps a lot.... as it doesn't want to seal back up while you work along.

Go-jo or soapy water works well as lube.

I wrestled it out today after dealing with my compressor motor.

Some of the urethane was still pliable along the bottom.

Started cleaning it up with my wire wheel

I forgot you can use thin steel wire.

Poke it through the tape and then pull it like a saw.
