tanman
Hi everyone, I'm excited to be here. My first bullnose was an 89 E150 and I just got my '86 this summer. I searched the VIN codes on the site. My truck is obviously an inline 6 but according to the code it's EFI? Call me crazy but there is a single barrel carburetor on top of the intake manifold. This EFI looks nothing like my old 94 f150 In addition, there is a bracket behind the carb that connects to a red rod/arm that goes behind the engine down to the transmission. What is this thing and why isn't it connected?
Gary Lewis
Welcome! Glad you joined. You found an error in the factory documentation. Your truck obviously doesn't have EFI as that's a Carter YFA 1bbl. The red rod is the kickdown linkage to the transmission. But if it isn't connected let's hope you have the C6 as a disconnected linkage to an AOD spells trouble. So, does your shift quadrant say Drive/2/1? Or does it have an O with a D inside it? The former is a C6 and the latter is an AOD. I'm betting it is a C6 or you'd have all sorts of problems. And a disconnected kickdown linkage on a C6 simply means that when you floor the throttle the tranny doesn't automatically kick down a gear. I've run them that way and realized that if I wanted to downshift to pass I needed to pull the lever down into 2nd. Last, where's home? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we could put you on it if we had a city/state combo or a zip code. ArdWrknTrk
Welcome Tanman! Gary's spelled it out. That's definitely a YFA carburetor and your kick down linkage is missing between the throttle and rod.

The shifter has P R N D 2 1. The door card indicates the transmission is K, and I looked that up to be a C6. Home is Holly Springs, North Carolina, 27540 I was searching the web for a true 1986 service manual and a forum pointed me here.

And you have a C6, which won't be hurt by not having the kickdown linkage attached.
