A/C compressor connector - how to disconnect?

Does your new one have the pigtail for the connector instead of it being right at the clutch?

I originally looked at the RA ones but never noticed them being different (until Bill pointed them out now) beyond the pigtail.

That's interesting.

Bill - what impact would the closed ports have? I know you said less power usage but what about cooling?

If it doesn't have the same effective displacement per revolution it will certainly impact cooling.

That's what I was guessing you'd say. Hate to knock Joe's new purchase but I just wonder how they can sell these as fs6's if they don't have the same cooling ability.

On the bolt on manifolds that you have to swap to the new pump is both ports open or just the 1 side?

I will have to see if my pump is a 1head or 2 head as I did not know to look for the seams.

I don't want to remove the manifolds to see if both ports are open and if covered by them.

I also want to thank you for posting how much oil to add as I have some new and flushed parts on my system.

We are in a heat wave right now so it may be a few days.

Also, I am looking for logic on why those ports are open. It might allow heat to generate better, it might be the R12/R134a difference as this new pump is rated R134a.

Yes, on a Ford factory FS6 all 4 ports are open. Both on the compressor and manifold. I powder coated mine so handled them quite a bit. I'd give the manufacturer of your new one a call.

I know the new one I got was for r134a and already had the 3oz of pag46 in it. It had all 4 ports open.

Really curious on if the manufacturer has an explanation.

I hear you on the heat wave we have it here too.

When not driving a truck I am out side pulling hoses and watching gauges as I off load.

14 to 16 hr days I come home soaked and totally drained.

Out the door at 3am and not home till 3pm the last thing I wanted to do is go out to my even hotter garage to work on my trucks AC.

1 oz condenser

dump dryer and measure the amount and add 1 oz.

So between the pump & dryer that leaves 6 oz and yo usay your pump came with 3oz in it so that would make 3 oz in the dryer if I did the math right.

Does that sound right?

The math is sound to me. I don't want to confirm or deny it as gospel though since I had to make an O'Reilly's run and it was during that time my neighbor measured out and applied the oil. I didn't ever ask him what numbers went where. I just confirmed that the compressor booklet showed 10oz total before I walked out the door.

Actually the label said there was 4.8 oz of Pag in there. I did look up the manufacturer but am pretty sure I am not getting anywhere with a huge conglomerate.

And this is worth considering, although Rock Auto prices are unbeatable, there is something to be said for buying locally on heavy ship items and items with cores. In my case it would have been great to have my retailer get another one to compare to as well as have them contact the manufacturer, (perhaps).

With Rock in this scenario I would need to pack up the compressor, ship it back, wait for another one to show up on a GAMBLE that it would be different than the one I sent back. It's a crap shoot and Rock does not have customer service, all is done on the net.

Did it say what pag oil it had in it? With all the discussion on A/C lately (you'd think it's warm or something outside right now...) there's been a few different oil recommendations so just curious what that manufacturer used.

Again, Murray/4Seasons used pag46 in the new FS6. Would be good to get the values from other manufacturers and maybe even remans for the sake of data collection.

It came with PAG 46 Synthetic.

That is the R134a compatible oil and the manufacturer wouldnt warranty the compressor otherwise. Also I added the UV dye in case there is a failure in the future.
