Did you know Lincoln made a pick up truck back in the day that was used north of the boarder but not Ford IIRC. We got the Ford and not the Lincoln here. I hear it is really hard getting parts for them when restoring.

Dave I know they made Mercury pickups that were sold only in Canada...something like 20 years, from 48-68. I see them out on the car cruise-ins every now and then. I know of the Lincoln pickups in more recent years...I've seen them as well, but I believe they turned into what is now called the "Platinum" version of the F-series. There are lots of them on the roads up here.

Is that a gas or flux wire welder?

I don't see a tank and why I asked.

If flux have you used flux wire for sheet metal work yet?

Dave ----

Dave, I have this machine set-up with gas, it's just that it has a small Albee tank in the back that you couldn't see in the other picture. Buying one of these tanks is one way to get around needing a contract here, which is what the larger tanks require. This little tank lasts me a long time. I'm running the small 0.023" wire, and it has worked great up to at least 1/8" plate, which I weld all the time. We have a stick and flux-core machine at work, but I've never used the MIG side of it...only the stick. This little Lincoln welds like a dream.

I paid a lot of money for this little welder...it's actually one of the commercial machines, although it looks pretty much like the ones at Home Depot. It is 120v (20amp) and I bought it specifically for doing thin stuff (auto sheet metal, and whatever else), but it has proven to work well on thicker stuff.

:nabble_smiley_blush:you are right on the Merc. I get thinking back in the Lincoln/ Merc were at the same dealers.

My Lincoln is also 120 volts with gas bought for doing sheet metal work too.

Dave ----

I could not see renting a tank and have it sit so I bought mine.

Don't remember the size but it not that small and not the larger one ....yes just right size :nabble_smiley_wink:

I also don't remember what I paid to have it filled you need it you pay!

Dave,

I probably would have gone with a 240v machine, but at the time I was talking to my brother in-law and he has a couple MIG welders and he claimed that he was having trouble trying to weld really thin material with them. He said he wasn't able to turn them down low enough. I forget what brand machines they are...not Miller or Lincoln. Pretty sure one of them is Tweco, and the other not sure. I was doing rocker panels on a VW "New" Beetle at the time, and they were really thin, like 22 gauge. On top of that, I liked the idea of the 120v so I could use the welder anywhere at all...and I have. I can throw it in the truck and take it to the shop at work, and it works fine on 100ft of extension cords...lol.

I've got a little Hobart Handler 140 and I love it. Don't need anything bigger than this for automotive work. There is nothing I can think of on an automobile that this welder cannot handle.

Exactly my thoughts!

This throws a wrench into my weekend plans. It (RockAuto order) was showing as due to be delivered on the 24th, and then since yesterday they're showing as stuck in Memphis. Bugger.

Yes, lots of things have been held up at that hub. Bummer for you!

Yep, it has made my job a complete nightmare. I work in the Cath Lab, and so it's not really good when we run out of stuff and my orders don't come in. For the last two weeks I've had to work with my sister hospital to make sure we're both stocked until the orders starts coming in. And when they do, it's gonna overload our receiving clerks.

My RockAuto and LMC orders didn’t make it this week, but the sheet metal shop came through for me with the rest of my Flareside bed parts! I was so happy they called! My friend there said he knows how badly car guys want their stuff for the weekends ha! And, he did a primo job on the parts as well. This is going to work out great.

Looks like you have plenty to do for the weekend! Your friend does know how important it is to have parts. Good friend to have. :nabble_smiley_good:

Giving this old Flareside headboard a new lease on life. Hoping to test assemble the “new” bed this weekend, and If all goes well get some paint on them shortly afterwards.
