WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

Wow, these trucks aren't even really on the list for desirable catalytic converters. But I guess it is easier on a truck, and they were just looking for an easy few bucks. Sorry that happened to you.

That’s a bummer, sorry to hear. This is ridiculous.

So today I filed a police report and then took my truck to the exhaust shop to have the stolen catalytic converter replaced.

Sorry Bob!

I'm glad I don't have a Cat. I'd feel violated if I went to start my truck and the exhaust was cut off.

It's everywhere.

A Chevy dealership in CT had 'teens' of trucks (12>20) trucks vandalized a couple of weeks back according to my brother.

Rhodium must be sky high right now.

Tonight my headlamp switch failed. 😖

It still works but the parking and dash lights only work in halfway between park and lights on.

Except the headlamps are off unless the knob is fully out.

Hopefully someone has one locally.

And this rain stops.

That would piss me off :nabble_smiley_angry:

Years ago I had the clutch fan taken off a 73 Blazer and I may had seen the people at the end of the drive when I came out to go some where but did not think anything of them till the pulleys hit the ground!

I also dont have a cat on my truck but when home it is the garage and at work there is enough people that know my truck to know if its not me under it to kick azz!

I do not leave the truck over night at work, jut the other day I did a 60 mile round trip just because of that.

It was crazy. I got home from work around 4:30, was sitting in the living room talking with my wife and around 4:45 we heard a power tool sound outside. We thought it was the neighbors working on their fence, but then a couple minutes later there was a frantic pounding on my front door. My neighbor across the street had seen a couple guys in full face mask / hoods scrambling into an SUV and tearing down the street (his wife had prevented him from chasing after the SUV). They had a picture of the SUV and were already on the phone with the police.

After the police arrived another neighbor a couple block away walked up. They had seen a couple guys in hoods / masks tearing past in an SUV so they took a picture of the license plate! I don't know if that will pan out at all, but at least the police have something to go on.

One ironic thing is that if they hadn't been wearing the masks chances are no one would've got pictures!

Given that they did take a cat, I'm glad it was from my truck. It was in the most exposed position, in the driveway right in front of the house (but not visible from the living room). Much more hidden behind the truck and some trees is the motorhome. That'd be a lot harder to deal with. And out in the street was my son's Buick. Not that I'm glad it happened to me, but I'd rather that than it happen to him.

And I'm glad to have found out about it right away. We're going to the cabin tomorrow so I need the truck. I was able to get it in tonight and they'll be able to fix it tomorrow. They said this is the third older pickup they've had in for this this month. So evidently there is something to the ease of getting under a 4WD truck.

Jim says he'd feel violated if this happened to him. I heard that same thing from a guy at work who had his cat stolen a few months ago. Oddly I don't feel that at all. Really just a little annoyed. I'll be more annoyed if insurance doesn't cover it! We'll see about that tomorrow.

This makes me so mad. I hope they catch these crooks and lock them up.

Is there any kind of defense that can be deployed? Welded skid plate under the cat???

Its why I dont really want to run the Magnaflow Y pipe for my truck cause it comes with cats built in. I just know they will chop it out cause I am seeing at work all kinds of vehicles coming in with chopped converters.

Bit of a bummer, but insurance won't help. Not too surprised. I don't have comp coverage on the truck. I was hoping that maybe homeowners would kick in, but no joy there.

Next bummer is that they can't get a new cat until Tuesday. We're going up to the cabin this weekend. Packing everything and everyone into Lesley's Renegade or the Bronco won't be possible, but the Bronco can tow my utility trailer. That will make packing a bit more of a pain than the truck, but it'll work.

Google "catalytic converter rebar" and click on "images". That'll show how some have installed some protection. Not saying it looks worth it to me, but it's an option. I think it also gets you to aftermarket options, but I haven't looked to see if any of them would work on my truck.

Another option is to buy a 2000s vintage Chevy truck (I think I threw up in my mouth just a little when I typed that). We checked my neighbors truck to see if his cat had been stolen. You can hardly see it the way it's buried up above a frame rail. Not right out in the open like my '97. But that's not worth it to me either :nabble_smiley_evil:

And good news, the police called us this afternoon to tell us that they were caught and and now in jail. I honestly am not hoping that they stay there for a long time, but I am glad that they were caught, and I hope that they take advantage of this opportunity to turn their lives in a better direction.

Bummer about the insurance and late arrival of the cat to the shop.

Glad they are caught. I admire your compassion, I have a camera up to try to catch whoever is stealing my gas, I go out and find gas stolen and I’m very angry, not too compassionate at the moment I see it either.

So, good for you, and yes I hope they turn their life around.
