Are they DOT lights?

Dave ----

Not sure, the sticker on the box says DOT but nothing else says anything about it. I've bought two sets of stock replacement headlight assemblies for my 99 grand marquis and those didn't say DOT either, although they are exactly the same design as the OEM headlight assemblies. Not worried, there's people out there with 1 headlight out every night, and the next person you encounter they have their low beams set to project right into oncoming traffic, they never seem to get pulled over. I truly hate driving home at 10 PM, it is horrible, and it's gotten a lot worse the past few years. Seems like either people drive with no headlights on, 1 burnt out, or their high beam LED's on in their 80K SUV and never dim them for oncoming traffic.

Amazon, just search H6054 chrome housing diamond cut headlights and they should pop up, $39.99

Thanks!

Man those LED lights are killin' me out there! It's not so bad in the high Bronco. The Ranger, it's hit or miss. But driving the wife's hybrid Kia, I'm about 6 inches off the road, and guaranteed to be blinded. They should pass some kind of law against too bright of lights.

They should pass some kind of law against too bright of lights.

Gary has already documented his discussions with an expert on lighting.

The Daniel J. Stern Lighting Consultancy

While U.S. DOT regulations place a 55/60W low/high beam limits, this was from the days of incandescent lights and doesn't take into account the far better luminous efficiency of LED's (~8x more light per Watt)

The NHSTA do have standards for pattern and throw that are spelled out on his site and in the thread here.

Actually it's what I did to my GMC today! :nabble_smiley_whistling:

But, I thought I'd post it because so far it's a nice product.

I installed a Truxedo Truxport tonneau cover today. Easy to install and fits and looks nice. They have good instructions and also videos on the Real Truck website. A big reason I bought it was because of the videos.

It's a soft cover and rolls up easily to use the whole bed.

Edit: I bought it from Summit Racings website.

That should be pretty handy, Dane. :nabble_smiley_good:

I really like the covers that allow you to use the bed. Mine rolls up into the container in the front, so shortens the bed a bit, but still allows you to put longer things under the container. Not as capable as yours, but a lot better than the hard covers that only open at a small angle. Don't think I'd like those.

I think it will be handy. I've often had a toolbox or canopy on my trucks. The canopies are in the way a lot but handy also.

I've never wanted a tonneau cover, just never thought of it. But now with my back I can't stand or walk very long. I have a walker I can sit in, tried taking it in the back seat and that didn't work very well. Then thought with this I can take it or take it out of the bed and use the bed.

It was an easy install, with my back however, it took a lot longer than most as I had to stop and sit.

I thought about the soft covers a lot back when I bought. But we often put valuable stuff in the bed on long trips. So I went with a hard rolling cover to protect those things. But if you don't put expensive stuff back there on long trips then the soft cover would sure be cheaper, easier, and still very beneficial. :nabble_smiley_good:

Yes, a hard cover like you have is great for valuables. Some day I may consider one.

I can get a lock for the tailgate handle but thought they could just cut the cover so I think I’ll let it be.
