Your own personal EVTM is always handy too.

A fuse panel cover is SUCH an easy pick at the breakers.

Yes! I have the EVTM's from 1980 - '87, and then again '96 lined up in the bookshelf above the computer in the shop. It is lots faster to pull one out and look at a page than to go to where I know it is on the site.

Awesome thanks for help everyone, after looking at the EVTM I'm going to try and find a personal copy of one Id love to have that book in front of me. Yeah I'll be going to the breakers here shortly again so I'm sure we will find a cover with ease.

Edit : Should I just go ahead and grab a 1980 version or does the 1981 cover the same stuff?

1980 was an introductory year for these trucks, and things that went wrong in 1980 were updated in 1981. So you may find quite a few differences between the two, and in that case I would probably shoot for a 1980 EVTM.

Yes, go with the '80 EVTM. The '81 EVTM will be maybe 98% correct for the '80 trucks, but there are are differences. One area for differences is the warning light wiring.

But, there were changes during the 1980 model year, so depending on when your truck was built you may find that the 1980 EVTM is correct or maybe the 1981 is correct. So if you have the 1980 EVTM and find it doesn't match yours then use the 1981 version on this site.

So I'm looking to get a new distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, new spark plugs and spark plug wires and anything else that I may be missing for the ignition to get this truck to hopefully run correctly. Was starting to look online and kinda confused on how to identify which stuff I need like for example the cap/rotor some come with duraspark 1 or 2, I have no idea at the moment how to check what version it would be. Been looking through the website on different stuff just not 100% if I'm in the right direction. I have been going to auto stores around here quite a bit but I've yet to get someone that seems to know what is going on and getting correct parts and get me steered in the right direction on this.

Look at the module on the drivers side inner fender.

How many plugs does it have?

What color is the plastic where the wires enter the aluminum?

If you answer 2 and Blue, it is DSII.

Pretty simple really.

Right, Jim. But, I'm pretty sure the 400 never came with anything but DS-II. I'm not 100% on that because it was used through 1982 and some funky stuff was trickling in that year. However, since the 400 wasn't available in the lighter trucks, I'm reasonably sure 400 means DS-II.

How should I have replied?
