Little up date:

I got the right water pump pulley and get it installed, it was 1" smaller dia. then the one I removed.

The belt I thought was to small (117585) was for the 84-86 trucks and even with the smaller WP pulley was still to small had to go a little bigger (17600).

I picked up a gauge set & vacuum pump from HF. I did the pump only because I got thinking the loner most likely went thru hell so went new.

Today we pulled a vacuum and after some sweating of a leak, did not have valve open all the way and a hose leak, it held 28 HG for and hour+ then pulled more vacuum as I did something else.

I had to wire the pump clutch and run a ground from it. I used a weather pack plug because of it sitting on the from of the motor. But mow that I think of it I could have used butt connectors as the pump has a plug on it oh well.

I added 2.5 12oz cans of 134a and it blows cool but not cold. Gauge low side was about 45 psi / 50 134a, could not hook up the high side.

Few people say it needs more gas get it up to about 60 so need to get another can of 134a and see if that helps.

I also need to find and install a check valve between the vacuum can on the fender well and supply because when ever I give it gas the vent door moves from AC to defrost.

I'll beat Jim to it - PROGRESS IS GOOD! :nabble_anim_claps:

You'll get the last few wrinkles ironed out, I'm sure of it. If you think back over all you've done I'm sure you'll realize how close you are. :nabble_smiley_good:

When you realize this saga started back with your decision to swap firewalls, you will see how far your 'garbage truck' has come!

Congratulations Dave! :nabble_anim_jump:

You really deserve frigid cold in that cab, and soon enough you'll have it. :nabble_smiley_good:

Garbage truck :nabble_head-rotfl-57x22_orig: that there is funny!

But you are right I bought it to do weekly garbage runs and wanting AC swapping the firewalls.

Funny it started with AC & the firewall swap and ends with the AC working.

Yes you see that right!

I had to add a total of 5 - 12oz cans of Freon to get it to blow cold.

On the test drive I had to kick the fan back to mid setting and I like that.

The next project I have on the truck is wire in the electric trailer brake controller and wire up the 7 spade trailer light connection. The 7 spade and the Tee with flat 4 for the lights, flat 4 will be cut off and wired to the 7 spade, are already on the truck.

I have a 7 spade to flat 4 adaptor I will keep in the truck if I tow a flat 4 trailer hook up.

A project is never done :nabble_anim_crazy:

60oz???

Whatever it takes to get the low side to pressure.

Ok, so now the trailer socket.

Next a new trailer. (Cutoff Flareside? 🤔)

Yes, there's always something to do.

But you're getting it done! 👍

Nice looking Javelin.

It a 71 - 74 Javelin and looks to have AMX badge on the rear pillar.

They had a base model and a SST model.

Do you know what size motor it had? they came with 258 straight six, 304, 360 & 401 v8's and for transmissions they had auto's and 4 sp sticks.

Dave,

I was able to talk to the guy with the orange Javelin this evening. It’s a ‘72 AMX with 360/auto.

Roadrunner floor mats in an AMC?

This guy is confused. 😛

Ill have to see if I can find the picture of Compo Brothers crane pulling Zero's AMX out of a tree off Dublin Rd. back in the late '70's.

The cops went looking for the crash that night, but no one bothered to look up.

There was hell to pay come morning. :nabble_head-rotfl-57x22_orig:

Dave, I put one of these on the truck I bought a few months ago. 7 blade with a 4 right beside it.

The floor mats are almost OK as MOPAR bought AMC mostly for the Jeep line.

We AMCs are invited to MOPAR meets because of that and put a hurting on them when drag racing.

I did give that some thought but I had the 7 blade and others in my auto electrical box and has been on the truck since November when I got the truck on the road, just not wired up.

In almost 20 years I have had the Durango I have not needed the one that came with the truck when new.

But you know how it goes you need the adaptor that is always in that other truck LOL

Dave ----

In the cool of the early morning (4am) I swapped car out and the Durango in the front blower motor stopped working and kind of know it was the resister & plug because playing with it the fan would start working for a bit.

Could not get the plug out of the resister so dropped the unit out of the duct and good thing wires into the plug had burnt. Got that working again but must have a wire crossed as fan blows high 1 setting before the high but it works!

Then the PU went in(5am), had a belt squeal on start up & PS would make a noise every now and then and with 2 new belts time to check. The 2 new belts were a little loose but the ALT was tight and it still squeals.

I will have to see if it does it with the AC off as it is the same belt I had before the AC.

I then moved onto wiring the truck for trailer brakes & power to the 7 blade trailer plug outback that I also had to wire up. A lot of over & under to pull 2- 10ga wires, trailer brake & 12 volt power, to the rear and make all nice nice with split loom and wire ties.

Out at the plug I have a Tee that ties in the trucks rear light harness that I will wire into the 7 blade plug along with the brake, power and a heavy ground wire.

Now going by the colors marked on the plug the wire colors did not jive with the paper that came with an adaptor I also bought. Nothing other then the ground was on the right blade?

A quick Goggle for RV 7 blade wiring and I was back on track.

Now I could not install the brake controller because it needs a pig tail.

I guess they figured you buy a new car / truck and in the glove box is the pig tail to go between the car / truck harness and the controller. Well our old trucks don't have this and did not know the controller needed it. The wires are pulled inside and tied off out of the way and 1 day after work I will pick up the pig tail. I also need to pick up a breaker for the 12 volt power the one I had would not work.

By 2:30 it was 94* in the garage and I was done for the day, did not even pick up the auto electrical supply box.
