Thanks guys

The truck did its trash duties before I went to the show.

Later the wife and I took the truck out to get dinner. It's fun sitting looking out the people that stop and look it over.

Gary, yes I have a photo album of the work that was done. First few people that asked about the truck did not believe I did all the work so I now show pictures.

Johnathan, I don't if you want me helping on the AC. I have been chasing leaks since I got it working.

I am using 134A. Replaced condenser, dryer and all but 1 hose. Also new green o rings but they seam to leak. When it works it is great but only for a few months then I check for more leaks.

Dave ----

Thanks for the feedback Dave. Did you try UV die injected into the system to identify the source of the leak? You can also pump down the system and fill with nitrogen and then use bubble solution to identify the source of the leak.

I do have dye in the system but I did not know it was leaking till it would not turn on the compressor and when I checked with the light the dye was all over the place so could not see just where it was coming from.

I have since cleaned off the dye and put a little charge back in the system.

I now have to run it and look for the leak but I did not want to run the AC till I had time to look as I did not want the dye blowing all over again.

Good luck in finding your leak. I am hoping mine won't be too hard to fix.

Well after driving home from work yesterday with 1 window open because it was going to rain and it was close to 90* I figured I need to look into the AC.

I few weeks ago I washed the dye off everything and added a small can of charge with stop leak.

It was still low on charge where the compressor would not stay running and blow coolish air.

So today I picked up a few cans of 134a, checked with the black light and seen it had leaked but still could not tell from where?

So cleaned the dye off again and put 1.5 small cans of 134a in. It is blowing colder but not where it should be.

Out side air think my son said was high 70'S and the coldest it came out the vent at was 51*f. He said it should be low 40's.

I kept checking for the dye if leaking even after a road test and did not see anything so will keep an eye on it and if it goes low on charge I hope I can find and fix the leak then pull a good vacuum and hope for the best!

Bummer! I had hoped you had it figured out - and I was going to follow your lead. Big Blue's compressor won't come in, so I bought two cans. But I don't have dye in, so maybe better get some.

Yes I would add dye being you dont know where it may be leaking from.

Have you put gauges to it yet? If so and it is vary low I think I would pull a good vacuum and see if it holds before putting any thing in it.

When I got the compressor, used, it had dye in it.

I dont know if the junk yard added it or it was pulled with it in there?

They did tell me to make sure I added oil to it or they would not take it back.

Like oil leaks when you go looking for where its coming from it is ALL OVER the place!

Think I have it down to a fitting on the compressor but not 100% sure.

Thing is I used all new green O-rings, 3 of the 4 hoses (could not find the 4th so re-used it).

I replaced everything but the evap and when I first got it going it worked great.

Forgot to tighten a fitting and lost charge, then installed 134a adapter fittings and forgot to tighten 1 of them and lost charge again :nabble_smiley_blush:

Now I got this leak somewhere around the compressor from what I can tell from the dye.

I will tell you if it goes low on charge again I will be pulling a vacuum before re-charging.

Oh I should point out I did not put my gauge set on for this re-charge.

Son had one of them hoses that fit the cans that had a gauge.

It has different colors and low / good / high / high danger!

With 1 can it was on the low side of good.

When I went to put a little in from the 2nd can it went way above the high danger but dont know why?

Even after took the gauge / hose off the gauge only dropped to the low side of high danger?

So dont know how good that gauge was to start.

I need to get a new gauge set as the HF one I have the sight glass leaks when the high side is turned on.

Have to see when NAPA has them on sale and pick up a good set.

Dont know if I would trust any of the other parts store gauge sets?

Sounds like your son's gauge went bad. But I can't recommend any set as I have an ancient on my father gave me. Haven't had to buy one.

And I haven't put them on this spring so should do that, as you pointed out. No use wasting a can or two if it is really low. :nabble_smiley_good:

Yea I think it did go bad all the more reason to get a good hose / gauge set.

I may have found where its leaking at but need to watch it to make sure.

I think its at the service valve to compressor manifold.

The valve came with the compressor and I never had them off so the O-ring is what came from the factory AFAIK.

My truck is down for the count :nabble_smiley_sad:

Nothing really bad, clutch pivot on the motor block broke again 3rd time.

I could not find the spare I bought so my son tried to re-weld it that I think will not work again.

But when he was doing that I pulled the right side mirror to tighten the pivot up some as every time you closed the door it would move.

Got it back on and went to adjust it and the mount broke from the pivot.

That was the last straw for the day as it was 97*f out, the wifes car would not turn over but had lights the day after we got it back from the drealer for a CEL, traction light and a blicking speed control on light.

They said it was because of dirty oil (BS) and found a bad belt tensioner and dirty brake fluid.

That I had to fix so she could use it the next day or I was stuck home as she would need my Durango.

The car in my garage battery would not start the car so I found out once my son moved it out and not being able to move it into the house garage even with a jump start. Had to clean the battery connections and put water in then a jump start got it running.

Son replaced the battery in wifes car so that is done and picked up dinner last night.

Still pissed at the truck so I did not go back out today to look more for the new pivot, the 300 six pivots are NA, or put the fixed one in or even order a new mirror.

Dave ----

ps my son just said the guy at Slicktruckparts.com told him the motor side clutch pivot is the same from 65 to 83 for in lines are all the same?

Picture he sent did not look the same, was not threaded all the way up to the nut part like I think mine was. Also think Gary or was it number dummy (Bill) said it was a 80 to 83 only part?

More looking into this I guess.
