  1. Yup, same as both of my 1995 and 1996 factory SRW.
  2. Dave, I probably would have gone with a 240v machine, but at the time I was talking to my brother in-law and he has a couple MIG welders and he claimed that he was having trouble trying to weld really thin material with them. He said he wasn't able to turn them down low enough. I forget what brand machines they are...not Miller or Lincoln. Pretty sure one of them is Tweco, and the other not sure. I was doing rocker panels on a VW "New" Beetle at the time, and they were really thin, like 22 gauge. On top of that, I liked the idea of the 120v so I could use the welder anywhere at all...and I have. I can throw it in the truck and take it to the shop at work, and it works fine on 100ft of extension cords...lol.
  3. Excellent thread topic! The windshield in my 1980 project truck is REALLY dirty, and while I haven't even attempted to clean it yet, I'm hoping that it cleans up OK. It looks like it is the original 41 year old windshield, but I don't know how one would tell for sure. There is a faded Permashine sticker in the lower RH corner, and I have a receipt from when the original selling dealer had the truck Permashined in October of 1979. However, the black stuff that it is sealed in place with is really messy...like it's all over the place in a couple spots. (I seem to recall reading that they changed the product they sealed windshields with many years ago...but I really don't know). We have a bit of an issue with windshields here at Mr. and Mrs. Rembrants. We use the drive trough car washes a lot because our well sometimes gets very low in the summer. Anyway, Mrs. Rembrant is always squealing about the film on her windshield from the waxes/sealants in the car wash. I usually wipe the whole outside glass down with brake cleaner on a rag, several times, and then clean with glass cleaner several times (Bon Ami is what I have been using lately). I also change the wiper inserts as often as possible. Bit of an ongoing battle I'm afraid. I'd like to tackle the Bullnose windshields though...they both could be improved, but at the end of the day, I think they both probably have worn/aged surfaces.
  4. I'm no help at all, but this '85 F350 service truck has been for sale up here in Canada for ages, and I figured I'd share it for kicks and ideas. I'd have no use for such a vehicle, but this thing is pretty cool with the PTO welder, PTO compressor, hydraulic crane, etc. It only has about 80k original miles too. Old oil field services truck. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/st-albert/1985-ford-f-350-service-truck/1552215802
  5. Right. I have a factory 1995 SRW here waiting to go in the 1980, and I have a factory 1996 SRW in my 1984. It is the style that sits completely inside the window gasket. I don't know anything about the 1980-1981 SRW and gasket, but I'll probably be pulling it out this summer, so I'll post up some pics when I do. I can check it this weekend to see how it fits.
  6. I thought that the 1980 and maybe 1981 factory aluminum sliders fit in a plain window gasket. This is the one in my 1980. I haven't pulled it yet, but I thought they had a flat flange that was the same size as the factory plain glass. The whole window sticks outside of the cab/gasket.
  7. I love seeing these forty year old trucks that are still this straight. So many of them are just beat to pieces!
  8. Does the 1980-1981 aluminum factory slider fit in the same gasket/seal used for the plain back window? That is what came with the Fairchild kit....a seal to fit the plain glass rear window.
  9. I have purchased two complete sets of cab and core support mounts, plus hardware, from LMC, and they seem pretty good to me. I can't comment on how well they will stand up for four decades, but my oldest set is now 3 years old, I guess. The 2nd set I've only installed recently. I don't think there are a lot of options for them to be honest. One issue though is that there is a mistake in the LMC parts listing, so you have to be careful what you order. It was incorrect 3 years ago, and it was still incorrect a few months ago when ordered another complete set. I can dig out the correct part numbers though if you plan to go with LMC. Figured I'd note the mistake in the LMC listing in case anybody goes searching for cab mount information. Might save you some of the trouble I went through getting this sorted out. The issue is the rear lower cushion, item #23. See black arrow below: For some reason LMC has part number 40-2008 listed for 1980-1986, which is incorrect. The correct rear lower cushion is part number 40-2009, which should be listed as fitting 1980-1996. There's actually two mistakes, but the first one is sort of irrelevant. For the rear upper cushion, they list a year break, 1980-1994, and the 1995-1996, but list the same part number for both. In any case, they only sell one rear upper cushion, and there's only one rear lower cushion that fits it, and that is 40-2009.

  11. Haha...Jim, welcome to my world! Everything is an outrageous amount compared to the US.
  12. Jim, I don't know if there's any gov't legislation as such, but the master distributor where I live is set up so that you have to rent the tanks from them...same for oxy acetylene, argon, etc...and they fill and exchange them as well. I'm not sure if they'll rent to Joe homeowner or not, but they definitely will with businesses. I bought the tank outright...I think it was around $300 and came filled, and it's around $85 to exchange/refill. I just didn't want to have to sign a rental contract, so I bought the tank. I actually like these little Albee tanks...regulator is built-in, and they're easy to handle and transport, etc. https://albeegascylinders.com/
  13. What are you talking about here Willis? Fill me in.
  14. That IS cool. I've seen the ones that were in the same casing as a regular DSII module...also made by MSD, with I believe the same 6AN? internals.
  15. Dave I know they made Mercury pickups that were sold only in Canada...something like 20 years, from 48-68. I see them out on the car cruise-ins every now and then. I know of the Lincoln pickups in more recent years...I've seen them as well, but I believe they turned into what is now called the "Platinum" version of the F-series. There are lots of them on the roads up here. Dave, I have this machine set-up with gas, it's just that it has a small Albee tank in the back that you couldn't see in the other picture. Buying one of these tanks is one way to get around needing a contract here, which is what the larger tanks require. This little tank lasts me a long time. I'm running the small 0.023" wire, and it has worked great up to at least 1/8" plate, which I weld all the time. We have a stick and flux-core machine at work, but I've never used the MIG side of it...only the stick. This little Lincoln welds like a dream. I paid a lot of money for this little welder...it's actually one of the commercial machines, although it looks pretty much like the ones at Home Depot. It is 120v (20amp) and I bought it specifically for doing thin stuff (auto sheet metal, and whatever else), but it has proven to work well on thicker stuff.
  16. Thanks Dave! It's coming along. I don't have to tell you how much work it takes, eh? lol. I'm moving on to bed building next, and then once that is done cab work...driver's side floor pan and probably both cab corners. I've been trying to come up with a good name for the old truck for 6 months, and it just dawned on me yesterday that the "Lincoln Flareside" would be appropriate!
  17. This is the thread I was thinking of to show the outer seal install location. I couldn't get to it before because I was on my phone. http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Door-seal-tp24618.html
  18. I can't help you, but I just tagged a guy that has built a several 460 F150 street trucks and is currently building another one.
  19. Search on here there are several threads that show the exact location of the secondary seals, and no there are no locating holes.
  20. Would have been a heck of a thing to put 600+ lbs on it and then drive around with no swaybars and the little 215 tires. It was sketchy enough to drive empty that way LOL.
  21. Mine is the same way, 204 and 147. It is odd. And my little 84 Flareside is way lopsided the other way. It’s like 27 lbs for the front and 635 lbs total.
  22. Mine behaves the same way. First half of a full tank drops fast then the bottom half drops slow.
