  1. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the grill parts cleaned up. I was less worried about the chrome and more worried about removing the blue paint that was all over everything, but they're not bad. I also hammered out a dent from the upper trim and that even turned out OK. The parts are all still kinda dingy up close, but at a glance they will look fine for this year (and maybe next:nabble_smiley_grin:) I've been calling this grill black, but it is definitely a charcoal color or dark charcoal, and I'm sure it was never painted, but I have no idea what it was removed from. I bought it from a guy that sells Ford parts...he used to work in a Ford dealer body shop and he took parts home with him for 40 years. I pulled my original grill down on the garage shelf, and it was most definitely painted at some point...it looks like silver paint... And I forgot to ask about these paper door liners. Any recommendations on what to replace these with? What have you guys done?
  2. Oh yes, I'm sure it does. I guess my train of thought is that if a truck needs a brace, might as well install the larger one if any at all. To install one before there's a problem then I'm sure the small one is just fine, but if there's a cracking/splitting issue at all, I'd go straight to the larger brace. Just my 2 cents worth;).
  3. That is a shame. I have a Terrapin brace on my truck. It is a beautiful piece, but oddly didn't fit my truck quite right and I had to cut/modify it a little bit to get the contour to fit the cab nicely. It wasn't a big deal, and I didn't think much of it at the time. The way the firewalls are stamped and spotted together I'm sure there are some variances in them. My truck had the small Ford brace in there originally. I personally don't think they were much help.
  4. For some reason or another, those 8.8 bushings are not covered well by the aftermarket. I had a difficult time finding a set as well and and went through a couple different ones before finding a set that fit. I finally ordered the ones from LMC, and they fit great. It's been a little while, but I think they were solid like the originals, meaning you might have to cut a slice in them to install over the bar. I had to cut the old ones off the bar. Out of curiosity, where the links mount on the front of your truck (the seats under the coil springs), are these cast iron (about 1" thick) or the stamped steel versions that sit between the spring seat and the axle beam?
  5. That is exactly what they did. Kind of interesting that they fit so well...I wonder if they were some kind of aftermarket offering that was made to fit? Personally, I wouldn't want to hang that much weight on the Flareside bedsides...it looks like if you opened the tailgate the sides would bow outwards and you'd never get it closed again...lol. I like it, but that poor old truck has seen better days.
  6. If you are talking of the part on the other side from the door hinge it is a half moon thing that would support that side of the box when bolted to the fender or bed side. With out it and only used say small washers they could pull thru the plastic box and it would flop around. You could use flat stock with holes drilled thru it and use small nuts & bolts to hold it up to the fender or bed side. It's not really seen with the door open so anything you can use to spread the support out on that side will work. As I posted in my post above I don't think you can use a style side one as the bolt hole spacing is different between flare side & style side setups Dave ---- Ok, so here's what I did today... I cut two new pieces of sheet metal to replace the old horseshoe shaped factory piece that was originally riveted to the inside of the box. The one on the right is 18ga stainless that I had on hand, and on the left is 22ga steel that I picked up this morning (It is cut to fit the hinge plate on the door.) Below shows how it will sit, but inside the box...and the piece is actually upside down in the picture...lol. Duh. I have since riveted the stainless piece in place and stuck new rubber bumpers in there. I bought new 4mm bolts and fender washers which I then painted blue;). I'll try it in the fender tomorrow and see how it all fits up.
  7. So, a 4x4 with 6x9" speakers in the door panels might get into the low teens?????? YES!!
  8. Yeah, and worth more money too. 2wd trucks like this one have a hard enough time fetching $10k. Some of the real nice examples we've seen go through Ebay often times hit $7000-$7500 bucks, while a real primo truck might fetch $10,500...but that would be rare. To get into the low teens, it must be a 4x4 pickup or a Bronco.
  9. Here's a big money Bullnose... https://www.ebay.com/itm/303246029519 It's a nice truck and has obviously been well preserved, but damn...$25 grand?.
  10. That's a pretty area. We did a motorcycle trip in 2011, and coming down from British Columbia we turned east on Hwy 20 just north of where you are. That was quite a ride through there and into Winthrop WA. Very cool. Welcome aboard. Sounds like you've got a nice project there.
  11. Do you have them on both doors? I only have one on the driver's door. There's a rubber plug in the hole on the passenger side.
  12. LMC has them as well as replacement plug pigtails.
  13. I just removed my door switch a couple days ago (It's seized, and I have a new one and a new plug on the way). Just unscrew the nut and pull the switch out. Once you unplug it, use something to keep the plug from falling back through the hole. If the plug goes back through, then you'll be taking some interior panels off to get to it.
  14. Haha! Ya know, Dr. Phil talked one time about people that are always late...lol. According to him, if you're a person that is always late, then you like being late. People often have an excuse for being late, but if it was unintentional, then of course every now and then person would be early, right??...lol. I get the punctuality thing though, and my wife is exactly the same. I like being early, and she likes planning things so that she arrives exactly at the required time, or shortly afterwards...lol. We sometimes both leave work to meet at an appointment, and if its at 2:00 pm, I'll arrive at 1:40, and she'll arrive at 2:05, every single time!
  15. Well, if a fella had a couple hundred old cars on a farm, I guess he'd need a tow truck huh?...lol.
  16. I just went through the auction catalog (slow day at the office...lol) and I see one lowly Bullnose rusting away in the background... https://vanderbrinkauction.proxibid.com/Collector-Cars/Classic-Vintage-Cars/1950-Chevrolet-Deluxe-4dr-Sedan/lotInformation/48890227#topoflot
  17. Must be referring to the lotto tickets?>.. Or maybe the Pull Tabs refer to drinking beer, and the "drinking" refers to hard liquor?>..lol.
  18. What was the girl referring to that he liked "Pull tabs and drinking"... I assumed the pull tabs were for cans of beer...but maybe they meant something else? Those little lotto tickets maybe that you pull the tabs back on?
  19. The driveshafts in that thing are probably the same wheelbase as my truck!! But it IS gorgeous! I'd drive it, as long as I never had to go into the city with it for any reason.
  20. Right there with ya dude Have you guys seen this in the news? https://jalopnik.com/a-minnesota-farmer-spent-his-life-collecting-cars-and-n-1837066153
  21. TRUTH! My inaccurate F150 temp gauge consistently reads on the "A", and my oil pressure at 2k RPM is in the middle of the "M", and I think between the O & R when idling.
  22. Yeah, my VW's have all run right on 90C, so I'm used to seeing that number fixed on my screen;).
  23. Most Canadians that are over 40 are fluent in both standard and metric, but below that most will mainly use Metric. There are lots of exceptions however...for height and weight, feet and pounds are still the defacto standard. Where I see the big difference is things like MPG...younger folks up here won't even know what that is...lol. True story. It all depends on the age of the person you're speaking to. What I'd call a 5 gallon bucket to a younger person is a 20L bucket. I can switch back and forth with ease with everything EXCEPT temperature... I've never been good with the Fahrenheit scale since it isn't a direct conversion.
