Free to a good home [you pay postage]. This speedometer head looks great and the needle has been repainted. The odometer and trip meter function normally, but the needle occasionally jerks and then reads high. The cable was lubricated, but the problem persisted. A replacement speedometer corrected the issue. The item is located @ zip code 35660.

That is a great piece of history! Thanks for sharing. -
My nephew, who is a physician, has had it. He is young and the symptoms were not too bad. He was quarantined at his home.

Very happy grandchildren, Jonathan! -
Oh, yeah... Ford also had a prototype turbo 4.9L! And it has been reported that it out-powered the 7.5L of that year! We can only wish these ideas made it to production.

I had a dream about this last night. I saw Big Blue from a distance and he was way up in the air. Then, when I got closer, I realized he was sitting on scaffolding, tires dangling in the breeze. No idea why I had that dream, or nightmare, but it sure fit in. Well, Big Blue has been on the lift for quite some time.

Drivers side? You from down under That looks to be the right side being it has the 3 openings for AC HVAC box, I know it well I did not have that shield on either of my 81's both with 300's I don't know if it had screw holes there or not, don't think so but will check later when I got out of the house for fresh air. Dave ---- Dave, you are absolutely correct! My bad.

I'll bet the gas mileage will be improved. Later, after this trip to establish a baseline, bump the timing to 10 degrees BTDC and adjust the idle speed. Drive and listen for pinging. If no pinging, go to 11 or 12 degrees. At some point, pinging or a resistance to start will occur. Then you retard the timing just enough to stop that. Please keep us informed!

The transmission in the truck should work with the small block engine; motor mounts are different [perches].

Well David....Ive got a 302 sitting in the bronco....but that factory efi and stupid looking intake system would HAVE to go. You already have the carburetor.

Thank you, Jim. Computer technology is not my strength. I will try to do that next time.

Hmmm? I like to think that I love the 300/4.9L engine as much as anybody and the following will be with that in mind. The most limiting design factor of this engine is the head. With its U-flow design, relatively small ports and less than smooth inlet [especially the valve pockets], low [8.0-8.7:1] compression ratio and long stroke, it is not a horsepower making machine. The centrally located low CFM carburetor and log intake makes for variable length runners [with sharp turns] and the log style exhaust manifold does the same. Actually, this design is excellent for a very flat torque curve, but prevents being able to easily rev to much above 3500 RPMs, so the horsepower is quite low [~120 stock], but can deliver ~260 ft. lbs. @ ~1650 RPMs. Toward the end of its production cycle, Ford did have a prototype crossflow head, which would have done a lot to help, but was never placed into production. These engines can be made to produce high horsepower, but it is expensive and equal or greater HP can be achieved at a much lower cost by going with a V8. Ray, instead of going with an Ecoboost or Coyote or turbo, why not keep it simple and "old school" by swapping the venerable six cylinder with a 5.0L/302 or 5.8L/351. You would not encounter as many obstacles and could have plenty of horsepower!

What a blessing to have such a sweet little helper. And, you are teaching her skills!
