Just for the discussion regarding optimum air/fuel ratios... Gary monitored the ratios of a certain 4.9L equipped F150 [modified fuel/ignition system] while being driven under varying conditions. At one point in the drive, AF ratio was recorded @ ~17:1. Remember, Gary?

It has been explained to me that the reason for the better than EFI gas mileage of the Feedback carburetion system is that the feedback system was capable of running leaner mixtures when cruising [>14.7:1].

The following was copied from that page: Tailgates: 1980 - '82 tailgates use straps while 1983 and later tailgates use cables. Given that they do not directly interchange. However, it is possible to put an '83 - '86 tailgate on an earlier bed fairly easily, as described on the Tailgates and then the Changing Tailgates tabs here.
