  1. Added the 1985 factory shop manual section called General Ignition Service to this page: Documentation/Electrical/Ignition. Has some pretty good info, but it looks like I need to rescan Page 10.
  2. I can neither confirm nor deny that this is the correct crossmember. Ford, in their infinite wisdom, not only appears to have replace it with one from a later year, they took the E0TZ version out of the catalog.

As for what I did today towards that, I gathered the parts I have, bought most of the rest from the hardware store, and did some modification for the rest. The stoppers the parts store has are w/o hole. So I put the one I got in the lathe and drilled a hole in it, a bit smaller than the 1/4" of the barb that will connect it to the hose. And another thing the store didn't have was rubber bands. Not to fear, an old bicycle inner tube will suffice there. Last, I need some way to attach the new tire pump to the hose, and preferably with a Schrader valve. But, the store didn't have what I needed so I made one. I took a valve stem and cut the rubber off it and got down to the brass stem. That measured .234" when I got done. And I had a 1/4" hose barb fitting, which I drilled out to .231". I then coated the inside of the barb and the outside of the stem with blue Loctite and tapped them together. Looks like this: Now I have to find some plastic pieces for the fins. Any suggestions?
  5. No, I don't think I ever tried to get it going. And, I'm not the most conversant guy on here re A/C systems. But, if it was me I'd either put some gauges on it, assuming I had some, or take it to someone to put gauges on. It is remotely possible that it is just down on freon. If not then they'll probably suggest pulling a vacuum on it. That will determine if it has a major leak.
  6. No, it isn't a Ford. But the vision was planted in my brain (thanks, Paul) right here on the forum, so what better place to record it? The plan is to make a rocket launcher, as shown in the link below, with my grandtwins. And then to make rockets and fire them.   8. It does mount to the fender on the left end, but it mounts to 10769 on its right end, and 10769 bolts to the radiator support.
  9. Well spotted. According to our new 1984 F-Series brochure, crew cabs were only available in standard and XL trim. Not XLT.

  12. Very nice! And you are right, the instrument/radio/horn bezels have been replaced, and the horn bezel if from a van. But what's with the red ignition coil? Obviously aftermarket, and I hope it isn't one of those "hot" coils that will kill the DS-II box. Overall, a very nice looking truck. But the hub caps are awful. However, I saw a truck with red wheels the other day, and these are much less hideous than those.
  13. That's exactly why I'm not worried, as I now have all of the brackets for the accessories, as well as the correct oil pan. That stuff alone would cost more than what I paid for this whole engine. An upgraded camshaft and an aluminum intake are definitely on the list and a must-have. One thing I'll have to decide is whether I want to carb it, or do something like a Sniper EFI setup. But I'll have to research those options first to weigh the pros and cons of both. Do you have a good machine shop down there? I mean, is still alive and ..... ripping. So, can you have one built? Or, might you want to go with an complete engine? Maybe one from Scotty?
  14. Just reviewed the whole thread. Man, that was a lot of rot! But what you've done looks good. On the wiper, I'm not sure I understand what the "cover" is. I don't see anything in the illustration below that jogs my memory. What am I missing?
  15. Yes, it is very nice. Looks like it has a lift on the front as I don't think it would have sat that high, although the rear may not be lifted. The engine bay looks mint. Even includes the AIR pump, and there's probably a 2nd one below that one. But what is the red thing in the corner of that pic? Is it a dual battery setup with a very red battery?
  16. That's from Lokar. It is the 24" variety, and cost ~$110. Yep, expensive. But it is flexible and I couldn't find anything else that looked like it would get out around the headers. It does, but it is CLOSE where it goes between the perch and the header. So Jim suggested the insulation that I added today. And one of the things that Jim pointed out, and rightly so, is that the stainless braid on the outside of the tube is like a rasp. As it turns out, it lays against the perch, so as the engine shakes it would quickly wear through the powder coating and start chewing up the perch. So while the insulation will help, I put a piece of convolute over the insulation to prevent wear. I'm hoping it is far enough from the header so it won't melt. We shall see.
  17. Apparently the suggestion wasn't enough. But you and I know we want to go there, so let's do it! What we ought to do is to get input from the forum members about the route. Maybe some of them know of things like Tall Grass Prairie that we shouldn't miss. And we can alter our route to take those things in.
  18. Since I'm getting my interior all fixed up and painted I decided I better look into getting my seat fixed as well. For a 36 year old seat it is in really nice condition except for a few small cracks on the driver's side. You can tell that this piece of vinyl has lost a lot of it's flexibility over the years and is kind of stiff. I was investigating vinyl repair kits and I just didn't have the confidence that I could do it and make it presentable. At least the cracks look natural...lol. Thanks to David's reply here, I contacted a local shop and they said they could replace that one panel and come pretty close to matching the color too. The guy said if absolutely necessary they could dye the new piece to match better, but I'll see how it looks first. He seemed confident that he could find a match that most people wouldn't even notice unless you pointed it out to them. Taking the truck to show him in the next few days hopefully. See if I can get some samples. Cory - I think that is going to work out really, really well. Your truck sure is going to be great!
  19. I'm going to guess that the core supports are different enough that you'd have to make some changes to put a diesel battery tray on a gas core support. But it is a good question and it would be nice to know the answer.
