  1. Thanks guys. Dane - I'll watch for your post. And I may have instructions that will help. I'll look. Bill - Yes, I needed a jar of that. But the new wires appear to have all of their smoke still inside so we are good for a while. And that #10 should withstand the 40A the fuse will blow at, so the smoke should stay in this round.
  2. Ok. So we need to determine if the original vacuum system is intact, or if he's going to have to go back to a simple system w/o the thermal switch and restrictions. Right?
  3. I don't want to get into another medium, be it Gab or anything else, as I'm already having a hard time keeping up. But if you tell people here about things on Gab it'll be similar to telling them about something on FTE in which they may have an interest. So, for instance, if someone is asking how to program an EEC-IV box or how to control an E4OD you could certainly point them to a particular post/tweet/gabble (?) on Gab.
  4. Jim - Does your vacuum advance work like his on such small amounts of vacuum? Even with a restriction after a bit of time you'll get the full vacuum. In my class on parallel systems where we modeled electrical systems in pneumatics we learned that a restriction is the equivalent to a resistor. So unless there's a vacuum leak on the other side of the restriction causing the equivalent of a current, eventually the vacuum on either side of the restriction will be equal. So, is there a controlled vacuum leak?
  5. If you mean AEM instead of AME, then I have some experience. I have their Failsafe AFR and I've not been too impressed with it. In the testing I've done it seemed to be reading quite lean. In one case it showed the AFR to be 17:1 and yet the engine was running nicely when it should have been bucking badly. Later I talked to Adam at Core Tuning and he said in their experience the AEM gauges aren't very accurate and recommended the Innovate line. According to him they tested a number of AFR meters against some very high dollar lab equipment and the Innovate always came out on top.
  6. Those are pretty good numbers, Bob. I'll bet it runs quite well.
  7. That's an amazing story! I'm in awe of your ability to make things.
  8. Well Dane, did you get there and back? Did you buy it? And chase his livestock? As for me, I made it to the Line-X shop and back. It took 3 hours, but it turned out well. They filled all of the holes they were supposed to fill and didn't fill the ones they weren't. Tomorrow I'll start installing the toolbox. But first, I'm going to measure the ride height. That's 'cause the ride is much worse w/o the toolbox and its normal load as well as the spare tire in the bed. So I'm curious how much higher the rear is w/o that weight.
  9. Well, that's going to be short lived. The Guardian, in an article entitled High noon for Gary: why is the once-popular name on the verge of extinction?, says "Gary has plummeted from view on both sides of the Atlantic, and is now severely endangered. Just 450 were created in the US in 2013, and 28 in England and Wales." I kinda wish they'd have said "The name Gary plummeted from view..." as it reads as if some poor Gary did. And he must have been kinda big as you apparently could see him from both sides of the pond.
  10. That’s a strange vacuum advance unit. I would expect it to come in between 5 and 10 and be all in between 15 and 20. But this one could easily cause pinging if not detonation with that much advance. Unless I’m missing something I think you need to replace it. And I’d use something like an adjustable one from Crane Cams.
  11. Ok, now I understand. Thanks for the explanation.
  12. Love the grille but tell me more about the lights? You painted them?
  13. I just used a heavy trash bag and 3M rope caulk to stick it on.
  14. It is in the door pocket, for quick access. But thanks. And the truck is now in getting Line-X’d.
  15. David - I missed that it is used. Wow, some people.
  16. Got started just after 8 and was done at 11. And there was no smoke when I shut the hood. But there sure was yesterday, and here's the aftermath: Luckily the smoke is still in the wire to the starter, so I didn't have to replace it. So I tapped into the 40A fuse in the PDB that I was previously using and ran that to the fender-mounted relay - after I moved it a bit. Now I'm ready to head out to have it Line-X'd, but thought I show you where the relay is mounted. (Dane, that pic's for you. )
  17. But, it is a Ford part... Yes, for those who are so into "Ford" they want to equip their house that way. Just my opinion, but they look completely out of place on these trucks. Not all of Ford's ideas were "better".
  18. Yes, the old stuff just crumbles. I don't know if that is due to the chemicals they used at the time, or if that is just the nature of that stuff. I sure hope this new closed-cell tape holds up a whole lot better. I'll be using the 1" x 3/4" tape on top of the bedsides and the front panel of the bed so the toolbox compresses it enough to both seal out dust and rain as well as to prevent the toolbox from hitting the bed when crossed up offroad. And there will be a piece of 1 1/2 x 1/8" foam tape on the rear face of the header at the top of the front panel that will prevent the box from hitting the bed that way. Then there will be another piece of the 1 x 3/4" tape on the rear of the toolbox to keep the bed cover's module and tracks from hitting the toolbox and to prevent water from getting into the bed. And the tracks for the bed cover have their own foam tape that seal them to the tops of the bedsides. So there will be a whole lot of foam tape in use, and I sure hope it doesn't crumble!
  19. Sorry to see that FTE is having problems - again. What little I know about Gab is what I've heard on the news and what I've read on Wikipedia, but it doesn't sound like an easy platform to use for truck content. I'm not sure what you mean by "Would anyone here enjoy a group on Gab for garagemahal?" Can you explain that a bit more? However, there may well be an interest in information on the IDI, how to reload EEC-IV code, and how to control an E4OD. Again, please tell us more.
  20. Wow! That's a MACHINE! You've really put a lot of work into that. I'm impressed. How many years has it taken to get it where it is? And how much wood do you typically sell in a year? It must be a whole lot. Good luck on the splitter. Hope it works our extremely well.
  21. Bruce - I didn't know I was supposed to "exercise" the front axle periodically. That's great to know. And now I will. I've only locked the front axle in a couple of times, just to see if it worked - it did. But I'll exercise it some today. Thanks!
