  1. The brake lights aren't connected to the hydraulic part of the braking system. Instead they are controlled by a switch on the brake linkage up under the dash. It is base part number 13480 in the drawing below, and it seems that you either have a bad switch or something wrong with the linkage. I'd play with the linkage to ensure that there's not pressure on the switch all the time. And maybe take the switch off and check it out. BUT, it goes on in an odd way so take a pic of how it is on - assuming it hasn't been taken off and put back on incorrectly.
  2. I'm not au fait with that carb. But we have lots of documentation on it: Documentation/Fuel Systems/ CARBURETORS, CHOKES, & EFI/Carter YFA 1BBL. There's the factory shop manual section as well as a document from Walker on the Instructions tab. (Unfortunately the Exploded Views & Part #'s tab isn't working, so I need to figure that out and fix it.) Also, Bill Vose/85lebaront2, our resident fuel system and ignition expert has written a "Tips" section. And the very first statement in the tips is "The Carter YFA is a fairly simple carburetor, which has one major weak point - the combination accelerator pump and metering rod control. This is a diaphragm with manifold vacuum on bottom and fuel on the top side. When this diaphragm fails the fuel is drawn directly into the intake." And I'm pretty sure that's what the problem is with yours. So I do think you'll have to pull it off and go through it.
  3. Forgive me, but I don't think "Flat" beverages are what the attendees of the show are looking for. Most people prefer their soft drinks carbonated. "Flat" may be only my terminology and no one else's, but I suspect the water at least will be flat. Hopefully the soft drinks won't be. I have quite a list of to-do items for between now and Friday, then another for Friday for the dinner and the evening, and then one for Saturday. One item on the list for Friday is to load all of those beverages up in coolers with ice and get them cold for Saturday
  4. Nice looking bezels and good prices, Cory. I'm sure you'll have plenty of interest.
  5. Nope, because I was still tinkering with these trucks in the junkyard, buying and selling parts on Ebay, even though I didn't technically own a bullnose for a few months. I used the time to re-arrange my priorities, and am thankful for that step back. It allowed me to clear my mind and redirect my focus. I actually had the 86 F250 parts truck by the end of 2017, so I was only bullnose-less for a few months. I like these trucks too much to not have one. The F350 is actually way further along than the F150 was, which is crazy to think. But the F150 was also in worse shape, which is why it now sits in some guy's yard as wood storage, seen below. Well, you've kept busy with these truck, that's for sure. But an F150 for wood storage? That is a crying shame.
  6. Thanks, Heinz! But you would have been welcome this year. David and I were remembering this morning the show three years ago when Ken from New Zealand and Darin from Australia were here. In addition Vinny from Canada. And Numberdummy from California, which seems to be a different country. And many others from here in the US. So I do hope you can come next year!
  7. 17 year old Shaun on FTE with his 1980 F150 probably would have fell for that. But 29 year old Shaun on Gary'sGaragemahal, who has now owned five different trucks with C-II pumps, will not fall for that. Wow, that means I've been tinkering with these trucks for almost 15 years now. Where has the time gone? I still remember snot-nosed me asking a hundred questions regarding part numbers and all the times Bill told me to buy the friggin' MPC. I guess I deserve that . But I knew you wouldn't fall for it or I wouldn't have suggested it. As for the time, are you subtracting the years you sold out? Man, I was sure sorry to see you do that.
  8. If it runs better with the idle mix screw turned all the way in then you have a problem. And I'll guess it is the accelerator pump that's leaking. If everything is working correctly you should be able to get max idle speed with the idle screw open a turn or two. That means you don't have either fuel leaks or air/vacuum leaks. But in your case something is leaking fuel, and about all that can leak fuel on a Carter like that is the accelerator pump. And that is why your plugs are so dark. And probably why you see smoke at idle.
  9. I think I'm essentially ready for the show. In that stack there are, top down: The banners that go out by the street In the box (can someone ID it?) are the leftover tee shirts from previous years, and once I hand out the ones Friday night to those who haven't gotten one we'll sell the leftovers on Saturday Smallest tote: The trophies, properly labeled, the gift cards, and the tee shirts I've targeted for the trophy winners Medium tote: Swap meet items as well as a 1-wire alternator I've finally found someone ..... crazy enough to take. Big tote: Everything for the entrant and visitor check-in tables, as shown in the s/s below right. Arrows which go out by the street and guide those who try to enter the wrong driveway around to the right one Bag of rubber straps and bungee cords to hold the banners up with What's missing in this pic are the two flats of water, one flat of Coke, and one flat of Dr Pepper that the youth are going to sell. In addition I don't yet have the new tee shirts, but have been assured they'll be ready. And already loaded in the truck are the awning and camp chairs. Hopefully tomorrow I can get all that loaded into Big Blue.
  10. I don't think the rubber hose on Bullnose trucks was every expected to carry ethanol, and I suspect that is what is causing the problems with them. But I'm glad you got it fixed. On the plugs, your pic looked very dark so I've made it lighter as well as bigger. And the plugs show either a very rich condition or oil being burned. Are you using any oil at all? If not, I think your air/fuel mix is too rich.
  11. Interesting. So the grommets might have been used as early as '81. When was your truck produced and in what plant?
  12. That's the one. And while I suspect that Shaun is right about it being cable-operated handles, I wonder if the cables came in at the same time that the door's sheet metal got downsized? Or did the handle have a poorer mounting approach? I guess what I'm saying is that I can't see that the cable caused the problem.
  13. That's interesting, David. The application list shows from '80 to 96/97, but on the video it says '92-97. I think we discussed this earlier. Seems like the Bullnose trucks didn't suffer from that problem but the later trucks did. Anyone remember that discussion?
  14. Interesting finds, David. Replacement harnesses are really scarce, or at least have been. Perhaps that is changing?
  15. RH black, I believe: https://www.rearcounter.com/E3TZ-10226A06-A-parts395344.html RH red, I believe: https://www.rearcounter.com/E3TZ-10226A06-C-parts255612.html Thanks, David!
  16. I was thinking maybe a hair dryer to warm them and not melt them like a heat gun could. Armor all might be like a thread solvent and be a good idea early to help soften as well. Armor-All won't hurt, but the hair dryer sounds like a good idea as well.
  17. Maybe you can soften yours up and get them off and back on? I think Armor-All might do it?
  18. I think you are looking for 10226A07 as the base #, and the prefix can probably be E2TZ through E6TZ, with the suffix determining the color. But you can paint them, which is what I did, with SEM and it holds nicely. Or maybe David has found some? You might search the forum for that base part number or "door handle grommet".
  19. And Nova Scotia! Wasn't Vinny in attendance that year? Yes, he was! That was quite a year.
  20. If you are ordering door panels you need to determine if they have the studs on the back. If not it would be hard to hold the earlier boot on, or even a piece of inner tube rubber. But I think you can use the grommet style on either door panel.
  21. Yes, I think we concluded that those fit 1980 and '81, as well as some 1982's. Discussion in Door Panels & Interior Handle Boots thread.
  22. Interesting. But I can't find E9TZ 14401-L in the MPC. It ends with E9TZ 14401-K.
  23. He's asking a bunch for it, but it does look pretty straight. Looks like the same Warn bumper I have, and they are sought after.
