  1. I wonder what he meant about "next to the radio"? Replacing the HVAC controls? Or in the little cubby like this one?
  2. Fenders look nice. Original pin striping is interesting.
  3. I agree - buyer beware. It says "small or large trans", but in my experience this one-size-fits-all approach usually means it really fits none correctly. There's a pretty big difference in the tranny cover for the "large" transmissions, like the ZF5, so if the thing is molded to fit that then it is going to be sloppy on the short cover.
  4. Not a bad price. Note that the MPC says "80/" which means at least to the end of the catalog, which was 1989, but they were only used through '81.
  5. I'm not sure if carpet gets old, but I'd want to compare the price of this vs new carpet from ACC. With them you get the option of different backings, different pile, etc. And, the advertiser needs to be careful. Their statement of "SHOULD ALSO FIT 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 FULL SIZE" won't be correct if the later truck has the tall tranny cover in it that was used for the ZF5. In that case the carpet probably won't fit properly.
  6. The MPC says "HANDLE and CABLE ASSY. (HOOD LATCH)" and the bag says "HNDL + Cable Assembly", so surely the handle is in there???? Not a bad price. It is for the 1986 & 86 trucks because it is black, but should fit the earlier trucks.
  7. I didn't realize there was a different one for the early 1980 trucks: 80/ E-F-U100/350 "From 2/80" E0TZ 18832-A Located at ignition coil
  8. Actually, the tachs are interchangeable between 6 and 8 cylinder engines. But the 8 cylinder wiring harness grounds a terminal on the tach that puts it in 8 mode. So if the wiring harness has been changed...
  9. Those are nice! But I think I'll continue on with the lowly F250 badges.
  10. Another notch in David's belt. (Which I think is about to fall off. ) Well done!
  11. The EFI system you have is very limiting. It is called "Speed Density" because it doesn't have a mass air-flow meter. Instead, it assumes you haven't changed the cam, intake, valves, exhaust, or bore & stroke. But if you do change very much you'll be outside of its ability to adjust and the engine will NOT run correctly. So, you are fairly well stuck with stock, or close to stock, if you keep the EFI system. There are folks that know just how much you can change and get it to work, but I know for sure you can't put a 5.8L in there and get it to run correctly. And I doubt you can do enough else to get enough more power to make it what you want. But let's see what the others say. I really don't know how far you can push the EEC-IV system with changes and get it to run correctly. However, my nephew had someone bring a system like yours to him recently and he discovered they'd made a number of "upgrades" that caused the computer to not be able to run the engine properly. So he converted it to mass air-flow and got it running "OK". But never could get it to run really correctly. So, I'm thinking you'll be better served selling it and getting what you want. But maybe you should tell us what you really want?
  12. Orange might be close enough to red to not impact your night vision. But you are right that white will work best with your HVAC controls. Hope you start getting things in the mail, soon! It is no fun to be hung up waiting on someone else. (My new rear view mirror/camera system doesn't come in until Tuesday.)
  13. You know I've thought about it. Seriously. Other than the VIN and the badges it is an F350, albeit one of mixed heritage. Would make the people at the top of the passes even more surprised.
  14. Rusty - Actually, this system doesn't have the camera built into the mirror. That's one of several reasons I've gone with it as the detached "front" camera can be remoted to the front bumper. So I'll have a camera on both bumpers. But you are right that it wouldn't be an easy system to move from vehicle to vehicle. I'm going to permanently install it in Big Blue with the wiring kit, which does do what you want - records any time the G sensor detects movement. But it does draw on the vehicle's battery, although the wiring kit has a limit switch in it that turns the power off if the battery voltage gets down to a certain point. Jeff - You are the one that found the extension cable, so many thanks to you. Unfortunately that's the only one they have, do I'll just cut into it in order to extend the wiring to the front bumper. And, all of the stuff is now on order. It is said to be arriving Tuesday, and Santa appears to be amenable to playing with it then and there, so I can measure the current to the cameras and get another rear camera on order if it appears that the current is roughly the same. Also, Pormido supplied me with a link to download two things once I gave them my order #: Mapping Software: I ordered the GPS antenna so when on the system will record where the truck goes. Apparently viewing what is recorded isn't easily done with readily available applications so they have their own. I've downloaded and installed the Windows version so am ready. New Firmware: They have new firmware that allows you to turn at least the rear camera upside down. Apparently that gives you another switch to flip in the menu. But for some reason they don't load it in the systems, and only provide it when you ask. So I've downloaded it awa the instructions for loading it - which, oddly enough, are in a spreadsheet.
  15. Blue is my fav color, but I like legibility even better, and the white does that for me. Uno? Saw lots of those when we lived in the UK. Never drove one. Did drive a 2CV and an early Mini though, in addition to the Nissan Prairie we owned. All manual transmissions, which required attention with the left hand at the worst possible times, like in the middle of a roundabout when I was concentrating on making it through alive.
  16. Happy to help. I think you'll like it. That pic, which I'd already taken, doesn't show the strap that came with it but hadn't been connected when I took the pic. It has now, and I like it. It wraps around the seat and connects to the back of the console. So when you tilt the seat back it pushes the console forward but it can't fall off. Then you just push it back against the seatback.
  17. I've had several exchanges with Pormido today, and it turns out they don't have a longer extension cable than the 2 meter one. So, I think I'm ready to order tomorrow the following things: Pormido 12” Mirror Dash Cam with Detached Front Camera Pormido Hardwire Kit for PR996,PR998: Allows the system to be powered all the time but shuts off power if it goes below a certain voltage. That way it can record if the truck is hit while parked. Pormido GPS Antenna for PORMIDO Mirror Dash Cam PR996 PR998: Records GPS coordinates on the memory card. Pormido 2 Meters Extension Cable for PR998: I can cut into this and extend it w/o cutting the mirror or camera's harness.
  18. Hmmm, we may have an optimistic tachometer at play here. Poncho has 3.50 gears and the 4sp tranny is 1:1 in top gear. With 31" tires and 3.50 gears you should be turning 2086 RPM.
  19. Thanks, Bruce. It would be a bummer if they close off Black Bear and Imogene. We didn't come down the dangerous part of Black Bear, but we did do all of Imogene. And I'd still like to go back and do all of Black Bear.
  20. I did finally get one, the shorty cruiser. I wanted the shorty to stay away from the twin shift levers of the ZF5 and the transfer case, and it does. And we could move these comments to the other thread. But what might be better is if you order one and put your comments there. And I can do the same.
  21. Man, that's some low gears! And MPG is a consideration? You are going to be in the single digits with those gears. Our calculator says that 4.56 gears and 31" tires coupled to a C6 would give right at 3000 RPM at 55 MPH. I don't know what tranny you have, but a manual with a 1:1 top gear would give about 2750 because there's 250 RPM slippage dialed in for the torque converter.
