  1. In case you haven't seen it, I can no longer recommend the Garmin Montana 750i, as explained in this post in the thread on Handheld GPS System Recommendations?. To summarize, I got rid of the noise, although I don't really know how. But along the way I discovered several things about the 750i, the cradle it mounts in, and the Garmin documentation that I think are very poor. I don't know if there is a better device out there, but I can no longer recommend this one. :nabble_smiley_unhappy:But today I got the tint installed on the top of the windshield, and I'm happy about that. It isn't as tall as the guy first tried, but we both thought that was too much. So he cut it down and I like it. I think it is going to take a lot of sun off of Janey, and that's the intention.
  2. Glad you got it fixed. Yep, Jim is quite knowledgeable. As are most of the people on here.
  3. That's nice, David. Kinda 'spensive, but it is complete and all the switch bezels look good. The only things it is lacking to be a plug & play kit are the door lock actuators and window motors, but those are easily found. The harness and the switches are the hard part.
  4. Well done, Stein!!!! Yes, getting the pulley off and a power steering pump apart is a challenge. But you obviously got it done, just in time. But that is quite a drive. I looked it up on the map and on Google. Apparently that blues festival is the best in Europe. WOW! And that stave church in the town is really amazing. Beautiful scenery! Have fun, and stay safe.
  5. It isn't necessary to heat the end of the tubing to insert the barb. It just helps get the things started. But there is no clamp needed, it won't leak. And yes, the lines are stiff. Hence the heat to soften them a bit. Again, it isn't needed but just helpful. If the line is rolled up tightly I think I'd unroll it a day or so before trying to install it. And it doesn't stretch, so don't cut it too short. As for Amazon's shipping, I've seen the same thing and I've given up on trying to help them. I think they could save a ton of money and a lot of fuel if they would sort their logistics out.
  6. Oops, I forgot the turn signals. Does your truck also have slide locks? And what was the manufacturing date?
  7. Thanks, guys. The wheels are 10" wide and the tires are 285/75R16 Falken AT3W Wildpeaks, which are 33" in diameter. The bumper is from Warn and was on the truck when I got it. But there was no winch, so I added a 12K Smittybilt as well as an aux battery to run it. A 460 of our era only came with one auto - the C6. That's a 3-speed with no overdrive and no clutch in the torque converter so it is always slipping. So I really wouldn't want to go as low as 4.10 since that will give you 3000 RPM at 65 MPH. Compare that to 2700 with 3.73's and 2600 with 3.55's - still using the C6. And all of that is with 33" tires. I'm turning 1800 at the same speed with the ZF5 in 5th, or 2400 when in 4th. (I have 250 RPM in the C6 calcs for torque converter slippage.)
  8. Yes, 3.73 would be the better route. But what transmission do you have? As for a pic of Big Blue:
  9. That's interesting! I put the info into their dropdown and got nada. And what I put in was Ford/Taurus/1994-99/3.0L, which is what you found. I did it twice and got the same thing both times. But I'm not going to buy from someone who won't talk nor email with me. I'd go back to DB first as they at least talked with me.
  10. I followed up with Power Bastards today. I called the telephone number given on their website, and got the same spiel that goes something like "We are too busy to take your call, so email us." Given that I opted to use their chat feature: Gary: On June 30th I called and no one answered, but the voice mail system said to email you. I did the same day and now, 36 days later, having gotten no response I called again, got no answer, and was told to email you. I would like to talk to someone and if you want to talk to me you can call 918-859-7400. Mike: "Hi, what order is this regarding ?" Gary: It isn't regarding an order. I have a technical question and can't order until I get an answer. And while I have a lot of questions for them, the first one is "Do they have a high-output alternator for a 1994-99 Taurus with a 3.0L engine. Their page, shown below, suggests they don't. It has now been 20 minutes since my response to Mike, so I'm going off to do other things and will report back should I get a call. Don't hold your breath.
  11. Thanks, Jonathan! Very helpful information.
  12. Since you are new you've surely not read much, if any, of my "transformation" of Big Blue from a rough-rider to a smooth(er) riding truck set up for overlanding. And one of the things I did was to go with a D60 and SuperDuty springs with an RSK. Major difference! But I also installed a Scotty the mad porter-built 460 that was set up for EFI but I ran a carb on it for the first year. And all the while I was kicking myself for not having gone to 4.10's instead of 3.55's. Second gear starts with the ZF5 were just a bit too tall with the 33" tires as the engine just didn't want to pull below 1200 RPM. However, when I installed the EFI I discovered that the issue had been the huge lower EFI plenum which wasn't designed for having fuel in the air. It was soooo big it was like having a tunnel ram intake on the engine. But with the EFI system squirting the fuel into the intake ports it now pulls fine from idle all the way up. So now I'm happy with the 3.55's and I'm glad I didn't go with 4.10's. If I'm towing I stay in 4th gear and it has all the power I need. And if I'm running light I drop it into 5th and turn about 1900 R's at 65 MPH, just purring right along. ("Light" is a relative term as BB has a winch, dual batteries, 3KW inverter, 2HP/4 gallon onboard air system, electric bed cover, and lots of other accessories so he weighs ~6600 lbs w/o a driver.)
  13. Don't forget Champion radiators. I really like mine - especially the 2nd one as the first one leaked. They have a lifetime warranty and bolt right in, but are hard to find right now.
  14. Wow! That is looking GOOD! What is the air cleaner off of? A 70's truck? And the calibration label?
  15. Nice! But what is a "Canada Day Edition"? What options did it come with?
  16. I think you are right. So the shows or GTG’s may have started in 2013. Almost 10 years! And speaking of “the home”, due to COVID we aren’t having people in our home this year. We have a major vacation right after the show so don’t dare get sick.
  17. 2014 Okie GTG - Saturday, Sept 13thOld 08-14-2014, 10:39 AMGary Lewis's Avatar Gary LewisGary Lewis is offlinePosting LegendThread StarterJoin Date: Jul 2010Location: Northeast, OKPosts: 32,866Likes: 0Received 8 Likes on 7 PostsOfferHere's an offer from David/1986F150six:Years ago, I discovered an old van behind what had been a rural Ford dealership from the 50's to the 80's and then closed. The original owner's two sons still own the place and allowed me to explore. In the van were many hub caps, most NOS which unfortunately were exposed to the elements for way too long. The sons told me that when new vehicles were delivered, the hub caps were inside the vehicle, to be installed after delivery. Their dad [the dealership owner] would often upgrade to full wheel covers for additional profit and the dog dish hubcaps would be placed in a box [to be found 50 years later, by me].I retrieved a number of boxes and have some really "rusty/crusty" dog dish caps from the 1955, 1956 and 1957 era.So that's when we started? 2014? I know that I was the OK chapter leader for several years on FTE and had several chapter GTG's. But I apparently set this forum up on Aug 04, 2017 and the GTG's after that were "All-Ford" and not FTE. Come to think of it, the GTG in 2017 might have been one of the "straws that broke the camel's back". FTE said I couldn't have a non-FTE GTG.
  18. Welcome! Glad you joined. Where's home? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you with a city/state or zip. As for the tach question, here in the NMSH folder isn't the best place to ask as not as many people will see it as if you asked in the main part of the forum. But if your truck has gauges and not idiot lights then I think you can add a tach fairly easily. The wiring should be there and if you add the sensor you can plug the harness into it. But on the tach end you have two choices. The easiest is to buy the right instrument cluster or just the printed circuit that supports the tach and swap it out. But since there are only three wires it would be relatively easy to hardwire it yourself. The connections to the tach are on the studs with which the tach mounts, and they are labeled on the case. So you can put ring-tongue terminals under the nuts and wire back to the wiring harness. But I'd put a connector in there as getting everything hooked up in the close confines of the instrument panel might not be fun. Or make the wires long and be able to connect to the tach and then install the cluster.
  19. Larry - Good! taskswap - Yes, it is an annual thing. We have been doing it for the last 8 years according to David/1986F150Six. Initially it was late in September but there were some suggestions that we move it to the Labor Day weekend, which we've done for the last few years.
