  1. That's a nice color as well! I can't find an example on Google of an bullnose F-150 in the original color, but this Mustang looks pretty close: I'm pretty sure it's paint code 3L (see http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/exterior-paint-codes.html)
  2. Oh yeah, you're right. I guess it so happens that the truck was fully loaded then! Yep, Specifications makes sense to me as well.
  3. Thanks for posting this, Gary. I was looking for a definitive list of the trim in the '84 XL and lo and behold, here it is! Thanks! - Chris
  4. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I've found two original assemblies, but the wires were snipped right outside the housing so I need to replace this wiring. I've found this, but I'm not sure if this is right as there doesn't seem to be a provision to get power to the backup light socket... http://dennis-carpenter.com/taiilight-pigtail/p/B6C-13410-A/
  5. Hi Dyn, Yessir, it is. The PO installed that some time in the last 10 years or so. I think he put it on to hide the huge hole in the bed.
  6. Hey Rembrant! This isn't actually the original color, it was originally a Midnight Blue Metallic. It looked really sharp back in the day (when I was riding in it in my car seat as a 3 year old! haha). It also had light blue-dark blue-light blue tape stripes but those are long gone and I doubt I'll be able to find NOS of that. The previous owner got this color painted on and it looks pretty good but my aim is to get it back to midnight blue, original grille back on, stock wheels, etc. As stock as I can practically make it. I really like your truck as well, it looks sharp! - Chris
  7. Hi Guys/Gals, Some of you may have seen me posting occasionally about my '84 Flareside. I thought I'd create a post for people to follow along with. I've attached some pics of when I first got the truck again (long story, but people seem to like it). I'm starting off small... replacing the broken tail lights and getting clean wiring back to the connectors underneath the truck and I took the instrument cluster out and am going to be painting the gauges this week thanks to the posts I've seen here to inspire me. I also found a great looking rosewood bezel to replace the faded one (34 years in the sun will do it!) Lots of other work to be done, below is the current status. I'm sure I will be adding to the list as I discover more things. I'm pretty sure there's a vacuum leak to be found for instance... Hope you all are having fun out there. I'm getting into this kinda late, never worked on cars as a kid but I hope to learn as I go. A/C not working Bed light switch Left hand turn signal bulb in cluster Speed Control Hole in bed (wood+rust) Hesitation off the line Doors not aligned properly Wind noise Oil leak Paint Need original Wheels+Hubcaps Tailgate chains rusted Steering wheel wood missing Need new door panels Find replacement door map pockets Thanks, Chris
  8. Can any of you experts out there point me in the right direction to buy new pigtails from the lamp assembly to the connectors underneath the truck? It looks like it is fairly easy to put a new lamp socket and pigtail into an existing lamp assembly. I think I'm still adjusting being back to work after the Thanksgiving weekend, but most of the sockets I seem to be finding on the net don't seem to take the backup light socket into account as well. I just may be mis-remembering though, as I don't have the parts with me at the moment.
  9. Looking forward to the discussion! Not much to add yet, but this is on my radar as my first 'big' project on my flareside.
  10. Hey Gary, Can you add me too, please? I'm in Ventura, CA. Hope your hand is getting better! -Chris
  11. Thank you for this information Dyn! Great stuff. I'll admit that tail light replacements are pretty low on my priority list right now, but I have been eyeing up the LED ones (in my mental wish list). Thanks to both of you! Thanks for the pictures too, Rembrandt. Super helpful. There's lots of conflicting pictures and parts out there that say they are the real deal but aren't, so it's hard after awhile to know what's what. I'll start with Dyn's offer and post when I have an update. It's great that everyone helps each other out on this board, I for one appreciate it!
  12. Thanks Dyn! I'll message you to work out the details, I'll take what I can find haha!
  13. Hi Rembrandt, That'd be great, thanks! I'm not in a rush, so please don't go out of your way just for this. I really appreciate it when you do get around to it though! If I just had the housings, I could rebuild them from there using other parts (like from that LMC link) Just curious (when you get a chance)... is there a Grote part number on the back side somewhere on your truck? There's no clear lens on the bottom of the LH side? Sorry, I'm kinda going off memory here... long story but I bought the truck back last year after selling it about 16 years ago (my dad was the original owner) and my memory is sometimes fuzzy on what was really there originally...
  14. Hi Rembrandt - First of all, the pic of your truck is great! The original housings are long gone, there are aftermarket ones (these https://www.rpru.com/ford-truck-left-driver-side-tail-light-lens-and-housing/c34p5403) installed currently by a previous owner. But they have the clear lens on the LH and are broken also (damaged when I bought the truck) so I need replacements either way. Either the originals which seems to be almost impossible, or something as similar as I can get.
  15. Sorry to hear that, Gary. Hope it feels better soon!
  16. Thanks for looking, I'll take any and all help! :) The LMC link is so close, if only they had the housings themselves!
  17. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to approach replacing the Tail Lights on my '84 Flareside. I'm specifically looking for a replacement for E0TZ-13405-B (LH) and E0TZ-13404-B (RH). The right hand one seems relatively easy to find on the market, but E0TZ-13405-B seems to be near impossible. My truck bumper has the license plate in the center, not underneath the LH tail light so I don't need a LH tail light that has the clear lens on the bottom to illuminate the license plate. Aftermarket lights that have side markers and no clear lens on the LH bottom don't seem to exist. I've looked at some Grote options and they are close, but either don't have the side markers or they have the clear lens on the bottom of the LH light. I guess I'm being too picky trying to find a light that is identical to the originals, but that's the goal of my restoration where possible. Ideas? Hacks or mods I can make to other lights? (I guess I can just tape over the clear lens, but that's not my preferred approach) Thanks!
  18. If anyone runs across a Rosewood steering wheel like in Gary's second picture, please let me know! Most of the trim has come off the center of my steering wheel (I think the previous owner ripped it off... why?!)
  19. OK, that's what I'll do. Thanks guys. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something in the EVTM first, so thanks for checking as well for me, Gary. I've been noticing (now that I'm older and pickier) that the wire harness is in odd places - not fastened into the retaining clips on the fenders etc. So, maybe this could be from when the rebuilt engine was installed and they didn't install everything where it was before, either.
  20. Hi Everyone - I am slowly but surely trying to take care of a few easy fixes (not much experience working on cars, but hope to get better). I actually replaced the blower motor resistor the other day. Easy, but a step forward nonetheless. My current question is: There is a stray orange wire (can't see any dashes or dots, but the wire is painted over in most areas) that runs from the firewall on the drivers side, along the edge of the engine compartment, behind the coolant reservoir and is dangling near the headlights. The end of the wire is exposed - no connector at all. It's twisted/braided on the end. I've searched through the EVTM but am having a heck of a time finding it. It's kind of odd, you will see that it's "by itself" and not in a bundle or anything like that. In the first picture, the big object on the left is part of the speed control I believe (just for reference) And here's where it ends.. I reconnected the horn since as well (it wasn't connected in the second photo) Thanks for any help!
  21. Thanks Whisler. Have a good holiday season!
  22. Whisler - do you have one door panel, or two? Does it have the chrome trim that sits in that groove near the edge of the main panel? Trying to find the original door panels in blue or that chrome stuff has been hard so far. Thanks for offering these things up to others on the site!
  23. I wasn't positive, it was more of a question I guess. It makes sense, but I didn't want to assume. I'm guessing I can look up the Pantone color codes based on the Ford paint codes and try to order tape from that eventually (get it custom made) Thanks, and Happy Holidays!
