Need help identifying part.

Greg 85

While replacing the ignition coil,  I pulled this wire out as it was connected to the harness for the coil. What is it?  Is it important,? Can the truck run without it. And is it available? Thanks

That's the condenser/capacitor and is there to take out ignition noise for the radio.  The truck will be fine w/o it.  In fact, the 6 cylinder trucks didn't have one.

And thanks for asking this here.

I forgot to say that if you don't have noise in the radio then don't worry about replacing it.  These were needed back in the AM days more than FM.

And boy did ford love using them.  my '78 mercury had three of them one on the alternator one on the coil and one at the regulator.  my 82 F150 only has two one at the coil and one at the regulator.

I will retain the one at the coil by replacing it with a NOS unit just to make sure I don't get any ECM interference with the coil being mounted on the intake the same side as the sniper ECM.

This explains why I can hear every cylinder fire when I have the radio on...

My truck didn't have one anywhere on it. I had one with the right bullet connector on it and put it in the plug at the regulator and took out a lot of noise in my CB. When I come across one for the coil, I'll add one there too.
