Our friend Kyle/First Today send me a text a bit ago with a link to an article in Engine Builder Magazine. I thought y'all might be interested in reading it. Thanks, Kyle!

Gary,

I think coatings were recently mentioned in regards to firearms.
Perhaps when Robar closed up shop in September(?)
I have a couple of pistols done in Np3....

And had various engine components done on my race bikes back in the day by Calico up in Maine.
Piston skirts and crowns mostly, there are no valves, cams, springs or wristpin bushings in two strokes.

But we were definitely pushing piston speeds to fearsome levels.
Seizures were going to happen if your mix and jetting were not spot on.

Jim - I tend to remember the conversation, although I don't think I was part of it.  Anyway, coatings are becoming much more prevalent in high performance engines.  Tim Meyer is doing some on some of his engines.

We mostly did Teflon on skirts and reflective ceramic on crowns and combustion chambers.

I'm sure the industry has progressed leaps and bounds in 40 years.
