Nice lookin' old F250 on Ebay. Seems to be fairly well intact. That blue seems different...is that a factory color or a repaint?

It is a nice looking truck, but I agree with you that the blue seems wrong.  However, the '85 brochure shows the darker blue to be Bright Regatta Blue Metallic and the '86 brochure says the darker blue is Dark Shadow Blue Metallic.  So maybe I'm just not used to that color?

EDIT: Notice that it has the glued-on trim that was an early '85 option.  We've seen other later '85 and even a few '86 trucks with it.  My theory is that the last of it was used up on "speculation" vehicles, meaning those which weren't ordered by the customer.

"Glued on?"  "Pressure sensitive" is how Ford described it.  It is attached with double-stick tape, just like the 1982 - 1986 emblems.

I have noticed that every time that early 1985 trim shows up on a 1986 model, it is always on an F-250 model, and it is usually a single color truck.

Pressure-sensitive just didn't seem descriptive enough, so I said "glued on", which isn't right.  But, you are right that it on via double-stick tape.

And I agree, it is usually on an F250 with a single color, although this one has two colors currently.  I wonder what color(s) it had originally.

Bidding price hasn't budged on this truck. Sign of the times?

The reserve is probably $10k, or more...

I know the values vary wildly, but bidding on a truck like this would normally be higher than $2500 bucks by now.

Very much a sign of the times.  With 22 million in the US out of work, with the US government spending buckets of money it doesn't have trying to prop up the economy, and with the price of oil having gone negative there is a very real danger of serious financial times ahead.  And money for niceties, like this truck, dries up pretty quickly in times like this.

My guess is that it won't meet the reserve and the guy will have to sit on it for a year or so.  Bad timing.  But think about the Bronco, IIRC, that was listed for $75K.  Someone's going to be sitting on that one for a LOOOOOOOONG time!

I'm shocked that it went for that price. Didn't think anything under $10,000 would make the reserve. Somebody got what looks like a great truck for a steal of a price.

Agreed. I was guessing the reserve price to be $8500 or $10k or more. That's a lot of truck for $6000.

In hindsight, I would have been far FAR better off buying a truck like one of these than rehabilitating one, but it would be like crying over spilled milk now I suppose. I have thoroughly enjoying rebuilding mine, but from a financial point of view, it made such little sense to do so, I should probably be committed to an institution of some kind.

First, you have been and it is called the Bullnose Forum For The Insane.  It is run by the inmates, many of whom have made the mistake of trying to restore a rusted hulk to better-than-new condition.

Seriously though, this is exactly what I've been trying to say.  Before starting on a restoration figure out what your goal is and what your maximum expenditure can possibly be.  Then go find the best truck you can buy for that money and that fits within your goal.  You'll be loads of money and time ahead.

Yes, I know that someone is going to say "That doesn't fit with the 'Built Not Bought' theme!"  But, where do you draw that line?  Do you have to pour the molten cast iron for your engine in order to get that sticker?  Or is it enough to remove the ugly wheels the previous owner had on and put some period-correct slots on?  (I'm ignoring the question of if you have to operate the tire machine to swap the rubber.)

Haha, all true Gary!

The way I justify it is that hobbies cost money, period. From the fuel one puts in the tank of a gas guzzling speed boat, to green fees at a Golf course, or an addition on the house that you don't need (and is only a luxury). There's not much else you can use for an excuse for example to pay $10,000 for something that is only going to be worth $5000 when you're finished it...lol.

Still, I have not seen very many "mint" trucks for sale that were just as I wanted them as-is. I have no regrets, but in all honesty I think if I had to do it again I'd get myself one of those southern patina trucks, throw some wheels and tires on it, and a tune-up, and call it a day...lol.
