Sad story, but friends of mine lost their 23 year old son to a drunk driver recently. And all that was salvageable from his 60's Chevy pickup was the tailgate. And they are having a bench made out of it. They'll remember him every time they sit on it.
That's a valid reason for making a seat/bench.
