SROD 1982 transfer case linkage and mounting brackets

dwward01
Good day to everyone..

I have a 1982 bronco with a 351 windsor (wife's vehicle) with a srod 3 speed w/ overdrive (4 speed) that's been parked for about 20 years (since we met, lol). When we did meet, transmission was getting rebuilt, but taken out by someone else, during this, someone stole the transfer case linkage and mounting brackets. I've came up with most of the parts, except the mounting brackets, serious issue. I would have thought, Aftermarket, no problem, well.. seems they make those up to 1980 and after 1983, laughs. I'm hoping that maybe someone here might have any ideas for me,

thank you again for all your time

David

Right. That SROD was only used in the trucks from 1980-1983, and I think really uncommon in a 4x4 (and they're fairly uncommon in general, even in a 2wd). I thought I read somewhere that the SROD was only used in Bronco's when bolted to a transfer case, as the 4x4 pickups (if they had OD), got the SMOD transmission. Gary may know more. In any case, 4x4 linkage parts specific to the SROD will be about as hard to find as anything for these trucks.

They're both kinda funky transmissions in 4x4's as the transfer case shifter is always to the right of the transmission shifter.

In any case, good luck finding the parts.

Nice find Salans7,

That is indeed an SROD 4x4 shifter assembly. I'd contact that seller and see if he has the other parts.

I don't know about the application of that transmission, but I did discover that I didn't have all of the list in the transmission application chart.  I've fixed that now.

So, if I knew what the "Ident" is of that transmission, like RUG-DB, then I or we could tell.

A SROD behind a 351???

If you are unable to source the part, maybe a swap can be considered? Some of these gearboxes are very inexpensive and would hold up better against the 351. I came out ahead money-wise when I sold my SROD, bought a T19, and gathered all the fixins, and none of it was hard to find.

I will keep a lookout next time I hit the scrapyards.

7c154 and 7a147, my other thought was too fabricate a left side bracket and ,move the linkage over to the left side of shifter like all the other years, not sure if that would work, but not quite sure why the decided to straddle the transmission for those 3 years either.. thank you for your time

You might be able to do that.  But first I'd search for the parts.  Looks like you are looking for E1TZ 7A147-A and E1TZ 7C154-A.  And those will be marked E1TR 7C154-AC & E1TA 7C154-AA respectively.  IOW, those are the ID or Engineering #'s, which is what Ford put on the part, not the part #.
