Hello fellas, I'm a new member and look forward to learning more about 1980 thru 1986 Bullnose trucks. I've owned 1967 to '71 trucks for 42 years and I'm new to the Bullnose. I've recently bought a 1986 F-250 4×4 302 truck. I'm live in middle Tennessee and again, I look very forward to this!

Thank you, Phillip

Welcome Phillip!

We're here to help!
302 in a 250 isn't very common.
I assume you have the semi float axle n fewer than 8 lug nuts?
 Jim,
Lil'Red is a '87 F250 HD, 4.10's, 1356 4x4, Zf-5, 3G, PMGR, Saginaw PS, desmogged with a Holley 80508 and Performer intake.
Too much other stuff to mention.

Yes, welcome!  Glad you joined.

To Jim's point, there were actually two different F250's - one Ford termed the F250 HD and then the one I call the F250 LD, although the "light duty" bit is my term and Ford never used it.

But the HD's didn't come with a 302 and didn't get the 8-lug full-floating axle.  So I'd guess that if your engine is original then you don't have the HD.

Thank you, and no sir. It has 8 lug hubs. I'm not sure about the semi floating axle. I could post the VIN. I'm trying to finish an EFI to carburetor conversion that someone started and didn't finish.

Concerning the engine. I'm fairly certain it's a 302 but I did notice it does not have a rear oil pan sump as most trucks do.

You can decode the certification label on our page at Documentation/Specifications/Certification Label.  That's the label on the driver's door jamb.

Not rear sump is really weird.

You can tell 302 from 351 by looking at the water pump on the driver's side.
If it's right up on the head seam it's a 302.
If there's like 5/8-3/4" then it's a 351

But there were never EFI 351's in these trucks, so that's a tell right there

You need to check the FAQ for how to post a pic.

How far do the rear hubs stick out?

Hi Phillip and welcome!

I suggest that you setup your iPhone to take your pictures in JPEG instead of HEIC format.

More “site friendly”.

They don't stick out. They're flush with the 8 lug wheel.

Right.
So it's a semi-floater (light duty) 250...
Which could explain the 302. 💡
