NP435 Input shaft

IowaTom
Got a question for those who've done this before me.  I see some teeth are missing from my input shaft's synchro ring.  The spot is smooth as a baby's hiney and there were no lost teeth in the bottom of the case.  Is this supposed to be this way?

FWIW, I also emailed Novak in Utah and the gentleman who responded said, yeah, it's supposed to be that way.  Who would have thought!?

BorgWarner/Tremec T5's are also like that. They put a cutout in the input shaft to allow it to clear things during assembly.

I wouldn't have expected that, but it is good to know.  Thanks for the information.
