That's an interesting toy, as you said.  But I think there's a better way to get some, if not all, of that info.  I have an OBD-II dongle that puts out WIFI and an app on my phone to scan the various computers in the system and give me the trouble codes.  But there are other apps that provide the same info and more as that "toy", and some of them log the data.  And most of them are about $10.
