HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Ours is going to be quite different than we hoped as we aren't going to get to be with our kids.  But this way we will live to be with them next year.

And boy, do we have a lot for which to be thankful!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been on the wrong end of the Canadian Thanksgiving being a month earlier thing. My former boss forgot that when scheduling one of many trips to London, ON and we drove up that day. Whoops!

It would be the same as yours Jim, full turkey dinner. We just celebrate it a month or so earlier, and while it is a big holiday in Canada, it's not as big a holiday as it is in the US. I think some bigger family gatherings will have a turkey and a ham on the go, but usually it's just a turkey. Over in Newfoundland, they blend a traditional turkey dinner together with their own local boiled dinner...or Jiggs' Dinner as they call it...with salt beef or corned beef and cabbage, with extra salt!...lol.

Do you guys usually have dumplings as well? My stepfather used to call them "Dough Boys", ha! I haven't had them in years.

Ah, leave it to the Newfies...
I think they sound like they have an Irish brogue too!

Dumplings are pretty common.
Or perogies, or gnocchi, or...
Depending on family heritage.

Sweet potato, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole all seem to be Thanksgiving staples here in the states.

I haven’t had dumplings for a long time. Or “dumplins” as my family said.

My mom made some good ones. I don’t hear of them out west.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

Frank Wyatt
Hope everybody had a happy Thanksgiving. Dumplings seem to be found in many different cuisines from all around the world. It's been a couple years since the last time I had any as I do have to watch my blood sugar. At least I'm not full blown diabetic and with the two meds I'm on my AIC is that of a non diabetic in their 20's. Still, some chicken and dumplins would be great! We had turkey, corn bread dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans, cherry surprise, double layer pumpkin pie, cranberry pie, and pecan pie. It was all home made except the pecan pie and the green beans came from a can but they were seasoned well.
