Gear oil options?

Fryeken
Morning gentlemen,
I’m wanted to ask if motorcraft hypoid is the only gear oil of choice for the Dana 50 and 10.25 rear?  I have no reason to believe mine is not on the original fill and after all these years think it should be freshened up. I found it at rockauto for $25/ quart, but I’m curious why a standard 75/90 with friction modifier won’t work the same.

A name-brand 75/90 or 80/90 will be fine, unless you have the limited-slip diff and then the friction modifier is needed.  I run Mobil 1 synthetic, but that is probably overkill.

Thanks Gary,

I miss the smell of friction modifier.

Perfect timing on this question.  I need to change my rear axel fluid as well.  I have been looking at this product at Walmart.  Seems like it will do the trick.  Any issues with using this in a Dana 61?

I don't see any problem with it.  And that style of container is great.

Agreed
I put the Amsoil in my 10.25 using those bags and it really made it clean and easy.
