Ford Pickup Names - Hagerty

Ran across this article in Hemmings today called Officially, They're Just The F-series. But Ford Pickup Fans Have Much More Imaginative Nicknames.  It is interesting, especially the bit about our trucks:

1980-1986: With the first all-new chassis since 1965, Ford made a number of significant changes to the F-Series. First, the solid-axle four-wheel-drive front end gave way to the Twin Traction Beam design. Second, Ford added a 6.9L diesel V-8 developed with International Harvester for the F-250 and F-350, the first oil burner for Ford light-duty trucks. The F-100 model designation went away early in the generation, though Ford added a Blue Oval badge to the grille that has remained on full-size Ford pickups ever since.

Naming Convention: From focusing on the sides, Ford truck enthusiasts now started to direct their attention to the schnozz with the Bullnose nickname. We've also occasionally seen these referred to as Slantnoses, but Bullnose seems to win out on the open market.

Price Range: The Hemmings Price Guide suggests an average asking price of $15,000, and our current crop of Bullnose classifieds seems to bear that out. Yeah, these used to be dirt cheap, but sub-$5,000 examples are the exception now rather than the norm. The trucks seem to top out at $20,000 in the majority of Classic.com's reported sales.

Just curious,

Isn't that a conventional solid front axle on that 1980 prototype pictured?

Hello Matthew!

"My question is, are these trucks F-150s (and -250s, etc) or F150s"??

A rose by any other name is just as sweet!

How is your truck?

Good question, Matthew.  But that isn't the only question.  We'd need to know the engine, bed style, 4wd or 2wd, and condition.  Here's a view of the basically the same truck save for 150 vs 250 vs 350:

To hyphen or not to hyphen, is this your question..?

Well, even Ford doesn't seem to know.
In their own sales brochure, text is with.
But the emblem is without.

Where did you get those values from?

Nada Guide redirects to jdpower and for a 1982 F150 short bed with a 302 V8 its only showing a high value of $19,175 while you are showing a 6 cylinder long bed for $20,500.

On a side note its a shame value guides dont make mention of flare side for our trucks or dealer options such as dealer A/C.  Might not be factory A/C but the truck still has A/C.

Those are from Hagerty.  I have Big Blue insured with them and that gives me access to their evaluator.  They base the prices on sales across the US that they are tracking.  But, the prices of these trucks vary widely by region and they don't take that into account.

I didnt know Hagerty did that.  I planned on using them once I finish my truck to insure it.

I know the value varies from location to location.  Here in Texas trucks always carry a premium that's why I was a little shocked to see value in my area lower than what you posted.

I don’t have Hagerty insurance, but signed up on their site to have access to the valuation tool. I assume you can still do that.

You still can, I just checked.  You just cant go back on the graph past 1 year unless you are a paid member.  I dont care about that I only care about current price.

I looked up a '82 Flareside with a 302 and good condition comes back as $12,100 compared to jdpower that cites an average for a short bed truck of being $12,375.  Still I like the excellent condition value of $25,000 which is what I would value my truck at once completed.  It states could win a car show and drives like new, my truck will be all new on the drive train, but doubtful it would win a regional car show as car shows in general like to play favorites.

One thing I will say I am a little sadden that they dont have all options.  I looked up my '56 to see and for a Town Sedan they have one 272 engine option and two 312 engine options.  But not 292 engine option even though the 292 was the standard engine.  Plus my reproduction brochures dont list two 312 engine options just one so someone screwed up somewhere.

`Right.  Since I'm paying them I can go back as far as their info goes, which is back to '07 for these truck.  Below is the valuation for Dad's truck.

And then you look at all sales for these trucks that they know about, as shown below.  And you can then click on any of the sales and get the info.  For instance, that one that sold for $101,850 is shown below, but Hagerty has more info on the sales such as date and seller, VIN, etc.
