Exterior Trim

Higgy86
Looking for guidance on the best way to rejuvenate my 1986 XLT Lariat trim.  Is it better to do the oven cleaner then polish method removing the anodization or to sand with multiple grits (400-1000) then polish?

I don't know, but I'm subscribed to find out.

However, my understanding is that once you take the anodizing off you'll have to polish the trim when it tarnishes.

I would try just sanding it with 1500 to 2500 grit sandpaper first.  The anodizing may only need a slight sanding then polish to bring it back.

I'd use only oven cleaner as a last resort.

I've removed the anodizing on one grille piece and it was a pain to keep up the shine. I ended up changing it with a newer piece.

I've read if you clearcoat over it after removing the finish, that prevents it from needing polished all the time.  Any thoughts on this?
