Are these the same type (not style) that the Bricknose trucks wore under the left headlight?

My truck has Custom badging under the model on the fenders but they all seem to have: Diesel, EFI, Or 4X4 on that filler that wraps under the grille.
 Jim,
Lil'Red is a '87 F250 HD, 4.10's, 1356 4x4, Zf-5, 3G, PMGR, Saginaw PS, desmogged with a Holley 80508 and Performer intake.
Too much other stuff to mention.

They are the same exact badge.  The MPC shows that they were used on Bullnose, Bricknose, and the little Rangers and B-II.

Quite a long time ago[3/23/16, post #16], this was discussed on FTE and NumberDummy [Bill] listed this as:

E3TZ-9840282-A is TYPE 17 = 4 X 4 emblem for F150/350 & Bronco

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1370593-f150-fender-emblems.html

Dennis Carpenter lists in the catalog that it is for "tailgate & front fender" for 1983-1986 F100/F350 and for "body side" for 1984-1988 Broncos.

https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/en/trucks/exterior/emblems-amp-trim/e3tz-9840282-a-tailgate-emblem-4x4

Regarding the Dennis Carpenter description for F100/F350, what years was 4 wheel drive not offered in F100?

Since you have a Flareside, I think I would place the "4x4" emblem on the lower right side of the tailgate, on that thin raised portion.
That;s a good idea. Would it be gaudy to put one there AND under the "150" on the fenders?  Or even add the "XL" under the "150" and then the "4X4" under the "XL?"

Although I'm guessing they didn't come with the "XL" under the "150" in '86.  The only "XL" on my truck is on the center of the dash...

Ah... decisions, decisions.

Yes, I think it would look gaudy to put *two* emblems of the same size under the "150."

If your truck had the XL or XLT [Lariat] trim package, there would have been an emblem above the radio on the dash bezel and under the "150" on each fender.

If you put the "4x4" on the lower right side of the tailgate, it will bring some color and interest there.  Notice the "LARIAT" emblem in a similar spot on this 1980 Ranger Lariat [Styleside]:

*Drivetrain:  AOD transmission, 3.55 gears, 2wd.

I think that's a great idea! I'll probably go with that.

When do you suppose they used those 4x2 emblems on the F series of trucks?  My '82 Flareside we got used in '92 and it never had those 4x2 emblems on it and there was never any of that black glue that remains after the emblem falls off.
My guess would be the 1980 and 1981 standard trim level trucks.  Those first two years had different emblems and a different grille, which makes these models look unique.

1982 brought a lot of little changes to the Bullnoses - including the emblems - and the "4x2" and "4x4" emblems were probably dropped after that.

In fact, I would group the Bullnoses like this:

1980/1981
1982 - 1984
1985/1986
Thats what I figured.  I know exhaust wise 80 - 81 had one tail pipe hanger, 82 had a unique hanger then 83 - 86 had the rod hanger style.

I could see 82 being the change over year where many things got changed or dropped.

I know mine doesnt have it and I dont know if I would even want to put one on it advertising mine as a 2wd like that when its obvious without the locking hubs on the front.
"Old Blue" - '56 Fairlane Town Sedan - 292-4V, Ford-O-Matic transmission, 3.22:1
'63 Belair 2dr sdn - 283-4V, Powerglide transmission, 4.56:1
'78 Cougar XR7 - 351-2V, FMX transmission, 2.75:1 9inch
"Bruno" - '82 F150 Flareside - 302-2V, C6 transmission, 2.75:1 9inch, 31x10.50-15 BFG KO2

This discussion got me to thinking, so I went out and took some pictures of the 86 XLT and the 84 XL

On both fenders of the 86

On rear post next to doors of the 86

On the dash of the 86

On the tailgate, top RH of the 86

And of course the grill of the 86

The 84 has a black/white emblem on the grill and the F150 and XL emblem are black
