Thermostat question

I see my engine will need a 192º thermostat. I've gotten into the (bad?) habit of drilling a small, 1/8th hole in the flat area to let bubbles escape after having a bad experience many years ago with an overheating engine. I'd changed the antifreeze in haste and didn't "burp" the system to purge trapped air. So I'm wondering if the little hole is okay for the 300 c.i. six.

This engine is still fairly new to me and I'm learning as I go!

it works! when in doubt drill a smaller hole. the coolant should circulate through the heater core at all times and that keeps the pump from cavitating but a tiny bit flowing through the radiator is never bad. it is never a good thing to block off the heater hoses but bypassing the core with a hose to both ports keeps things moving. sbf have a bypass hose for a good reason.
