Hi.

I hunt hjort, a medium sized deer like white tail IMG_20221103_183701_1.thumb.jpg.79d80d709448d87e01d59809ee5eaf84.jpgand its smaller cousin Rådyr, Roe Deer IMG_20221119_135027_3.thumb.jpg.e726bfd80e5dfa5ed1be57c9a698a0fc.jpg Eddie has an oil leak where the dipstick enters the oil pan. Check rear and front brakes. Replace rusted Battery Tray. New ground cable from battery. And other stuff I had planed. But I cant find my plan:nabble_anim_confused: How its going in Oklahoma ? Still cold ?

Hi again. Here we have had about a week with wind, rain and a temperatures up to 10`C. Now most of the snow and ice is gone. But now it turns to colder weather again..

Pulled off Eddies brake drums yesterday.IMG_20230110_185903_1.thumb.jpg.fcc69cad6d34a521792c0631271b095c.jpg As you can see the brake shoes are very uneven worn. The brake shoe facing forward is practically unused.

Even though I can`t say I have felt Eddies brakes were weak. But then again most braking is done by the front axle brakes. 2 more pics.IMG_20230110_185932_0.thumb.jpg.bee87231a32cd8b9e9245f1bb3812f91.jpgIMG_20230110_185952_6.thumb.jpg.9baa6df917aeafda9bffc8830d271685.jpg All brake parts are pretty new but is not mounted by me. Does anybody see something wrong ? :nabble_thinking-26_orig: I have 2 new wheel sylinders, Raybestos. So I checked the old ones. One had a leak.IMG_20230110_192546_2.thumb.jpg.62e8892b9c00db70476ca65f3c7a589c.jpg Both went in the bin. I think they were pretty new, but poor quality. No numbers or names on them either. I can put in new brake shoes / or switch forward facing brake shoe with rearward facing brake shoe.... But it can`t be normal with such uneven wear ?

First I will clean up the brake shields and prepare for remounting brake parts.

Greetings Stein.

I don't see anything that looks wrong. Maybe the truck was driven with the park brake on part way?

Anyway, I think you are doing the right thing by replacing the brake cylinders. :nabble_smiley_good:

Yep new wheel cylinders now is the right way to go. The brake shoe wear is normal as the primary shoe {the short one}, does the greater amount of braking. Also, don't swap them around as they are correctly installed with the shorter one, the primary shoe, installed towards the front.

Yep! I should have mentioned that. The primary is self-energizing, meaning that it gets pulled into the drum by the friction and, therefore, does most of the work. Don't swap them.

Hi.

Thanks for responses🙂. Today I looked at the brakes again. Can't remember having worked with different sized brake shoes before. Thanks for the tips about forward/ backward position of the brake shoes. On Eddie they are mounted the wrong way☹️. The resting points for the brake shoes looked good exept one with a little groove. Will try fill it with JB WeldIMG_20230114_152059_7.thumb.jpg.2b7f4c64e8ca29f4254572bf31680bc9.jpg Have ordered new brake shoes and a spring kit here in Norway.

Next checking the front calipers.

Its still cold and humid air from the north sea.IMG_20230114_120927_5.jpg.fde79431aa017e86af7b96eccba6766c.jpg

Having the shoes on the wrong way 'round would be bad. Glad you figured that out.

As for the groove, I've seen far worse but JB Weld can't hurt it.

Good luck! It does look COLD!

Hi again. Now the cold weather has changed to warm weather and some rain. Daytime 10`C / 50`F. Had the front calipers off to check the pistons. Thought the rotors were a little to hard to turn. The pistons were shiny and good.Worked them a little in and out and put a little grease inside their dust boot. IMG_20230117_183633_9.thumb.jpg.59859252a3e7e31c31f610119eb16017.jpg Back on with new paint.IMG_20230122_132830_2.jpg.94092631db264760a0e7df1ff379c11a.jpg Still working on the rear brakes. Have been painting some interior parts and have new bands. But haven`t got to mount them yet. So I thought why not replace the rear bearings ?IMG_20230122_120202_5.jpg.3811946cf276eb6af1bf92702284e5d2.jpg When pulling at the axle and giving it a few whacks from behind with a copper hammer it came easily out. The bearing itself split leaving the inner race inside the axle tube. Got it out with a sliding hammer.IMG_20230123_161154_3.thumb.jpg.c46ec47fa971eaa67ae6a2ecfc5082df.jpgIMG_20230123_161633_5.thumb.jpg.20b53480034261dd5536dc83cfe22a3d.jpgToday I got the bearings off their shafts.IMG_20230123_175845_9.thumb.jpg.575def08ddf3f4efc300f40a4cc28505.jpg Timken U 365L, Made in USA NJ Think they were the originals ? Will be replaced with these.IMG_20230123_180203_9.jpg.e77520ea2b2eacfb089de8b51f65cd9d.jpg To remove the old ones I used the angle grinder and chisel trick.IMG_20230123_190642_7.thumb.jpg.34b06a6313691506c733eb74853b860e.jpgIMG_20230123_191122_8.thumb.jpg.2380587d167b7c768847a8687affd0e8.jpg Made some small scars in one axleIMG_20230123_192306_5.thumb.jpg.8fbcca0241a3452cbd59da5379ea8956.jpg Next will be putting on the new bearings and brake parts. The spring is still some months away and I am in no hurry yet.

Greetings Stein.
