Saginaw brackets question

Recommended Posts

If you want to continue using V-belts then you're going to find a Windsor engined Econoline of similar vintage.

The 302 went to EFI in 1985 (I believe) while the 351HO didn't until '87.

I am not so certain about the Windsor engines, but in the case of my 460 the mounts were different depending if you had an AC compressor piggybacked on top, or no AC, like mine.

Also, the standoff/bracket bolted to the front of the cylinder head is different than the mount for a C2 pump (on my 460)

Pulleys do not interchange between Saginaw and C2 pumps.

It's good to know what years of van I'm looking for. That helps the online JY search.

If you don't mind me asking a follow-up question, my understanding is that there is no good aftermarket alternative for the JY bracket. So why do I see things like this posted on ebay:

Honestly, I haven't been looking for 351W Saginaw brackets, or why it wouldn't fit a 302.

Listing says "with Aluminium water pump"

Does it come with an aluminium water pump, or only fit with their aluminium water pump?

I tend to like stock part applications so I can go anywhere and ask for a power steering belt for a 1986 E-350 with a 460.

But maybe you keep the sleeve in your glove compartment so you always have the right number at hand.

It does look like it should work!

50% "would recommend" is not confidence inspiring.

Thanks Jim. I'm grasping at straws. Tough to find an E-series that old at a JY or salvage near me.

Well, I'm no 'expert' .

I can only say what's worked for me, and try to point out what has caught me up in the past.

I hope you don't have to go through a bunch of stuff to make this work for you! :nabble_smiley_good:

I found a yard that has the saginaw power steering bracket pulled. All they know is that it came off of an 84 E-150. If that was a 351, that would be carbed, but if it was a 302 it would be EFI with serpentine. I don't know what the v-belt bracket is supposed to look like so I'm trying to avoid buying the wrong one. Does anyone have a picture?

I felt certain EFI was a late year option in '84 and not standard until '85???

It must be sitting on a shelf if the yard doesn't know whether the engine has/d a carburetor.

I'm sorry. I don't have any pictures of a V-belt V/S polygroove EFI engine.

I thought the power steering bracket was all part of the big aluminum casting used on EFI trucks?

The pump bracket doesn't have to be adjustable when there is a tensioner.

To be perfectly honest, I just don't know. There are lots of dead links on FSB about the Saginaw swap so it's hard to find info. Looks like everybody did the swap in 2004 and I'm late to the party.

If I get a pic beforehand from someone, great. If not, I'll buy the part, post a picture, and let everyone else point out why it's obviously the wrong part. That way I'll at least know what to look for next time. :nabble_laughing-25-x-25_orig:

Does anyone know if this is what I should be looking for?
