Merry Christmas! Documentation Is Ready

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was contacted via email regarding the lack of info on the website for the splash shields on the bed. So today I had a few moments to add that info to the Documentation/Exterior/Beds page.

But, in doing so I embellished things a bit. On the illustration for the single rear wheel trucks, which looks like a Styleside but there's no illustration for a Flareside and they take the same parts anyway, I put info on the fasteners used since we don't have those fasteners in the Fastener info. However, on the DRW illustration I got even fancier and not only added info on fasteners we don't have, but added links to the one fastener we do have. Which then meant I had to embed a pdf rather than a picture so the blue box would work.

And, when I created the pdf it made it very small for some reason, which meant that when you first looked at the page you needed to click the zoom feature at the bottom. So I figured out how to make pdf's larger so there's no need for zooming when you pull up the page. (I printed the page and made it larger in the print dialog.) :nabble_anim_jump:

In fact, let's see what it looks like here:

As I was perusing the MPC yesterday I realized that there were illustrations of a roll bar. So then I looked at the text/part number side and found a confusing set of #'s. Then I looked at the accessories catalogs and was even more confused. So I put together a new page with the hope that y'all will help me figure this mess out: Documentation/Accessories/Roll Bar. Please take a look and help me sort it out.

There's two different versions for F-Series. The earlier version has support bars that attach to the bed floor right behind the main roll bar, as show in the earlier picture. But if you look at the bar mounted in a Ranger in the 86 catalog, the support bars go further back and mount closer to the wheel wells.

I can't speak for why the number for the main bar assembly differs between the standalone listing for 1980 and the listing under the main kit. Ford must have changed something at some point, or maybe the catalog is wrong? These bars were so uncommon that it would be hard to figure out what is what. They seemed to be more popular with the Rangers and Couriers, probably because they were cheaper.

But anyways, one of the Bricknose catalogs show the later F-Series roll bar in a bricknose.

Shaun - I think there are four different versions for the F-Series, and the 1989/E9 version was available in both black and brushed aluminum which kinda makes it five:

  • 1980: E0TZ 9951868-B: We see this in the PN listing by itself, and it is shown as 1980 only. I assume this would have been in kit E0TZ 99518K00-A initially, and I'm guessing that it looks like its brother E0TZ 9951868-B, which is probably like the one shown in the 1981 accessories catalog, meaning its rear bars went down to the bed ahead of the wheel well.

  • 1981 - 85: E1TZ 9951868-A: We see this in the Kit (Roll Bar) E0TZ 99518K00-A, which means we have a 1980 kit with a 1981 roll bar. I'm guessing that there was an issue with E0TZ 9951868-B and it got replaced but they didn't change the kit's #, although you can't mix and match rear braces as they have 1981 #'s as well. I'd bet this is the one shown in the 1981 accessories catalog with the rear bars going down ahead of the wheel well.

  • 1986 - 1988: E6TZ 9951868-?: From the Kit (Rally Bar) E6TZ 83518K00-? and this is the one shown in the 1986 accessories catalog with the rear braces going down behind the wheel wells.

  • 1989 - on: E9TZ 9951868-?: From the Kit (Rally Bar) E9TZ 83518K00-?, and this was avail in black & aluminum. This is the one you show, and I think it is different from the 1986 version as there doesn't appear to be a bolt holding the lower portion of the rear braces to the upper portion, as there is with the 1986 version.

I'm trying to sort through this here on the forum and then want to change the verbiage on the documentation page to match, so let's bounce this around. And, do you have a 1980 accessories catalog?

I've added another page: Documentation/Electrical/Connectors & Terminals. But it needs a lot of help from y'all, so I've started a new thread asking some questions: New Page On Terminals & Connectors - Need Help, Please.

You may be right, I did not spend that much time looking through the entry you posted.

I do have the 1980 Accessories catalog, but it shows the same thing as the 1981 catalog, picture and all.

If the 1980 accessories catalog has the same pic then it must have been a small change for 1981. But I think I’ve got it clarified in my mine and will update the page with that info unless someone else has another idea.

I've updated the Roll Bar page, and then added a page for the Step: Documentation/Accessories/Step.
