95 f150 AC in a bullnose?

Recommended Posts

Howdy guys, I don't know about everyone else but here in Arkansas it has gotten hot and very humid. That in mind I'd like to get the AC working in the truck again.

So the biggest monkey wrench is the fact that I have a serpentine belt setup from a 95 f150 in my truck and the compressor is different. The good news is that I have the 95 f150 it came out of as a parts truck and I have every piece of the AC system in that truck

My truck did come factory with AC so not trying to add AC, just adapting it to work again.

Can the 95 AC compressor be adapted to the 84 AC or is this going to take a complete swap of the entire AC system?

Also note that whatever I do I'll be buying a bunch of new parts for it. Using dirty and old AC components doesn't sound like the best thing to do.

Another note is that I'm not using the 95 efi system or other wiring either so I'm confused on how in the world to wire up the AC to make it work properly.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yep, it is hot in Okiehoma as well, but probably not as muggy as in AR.

Anyway, I'm in the midst of something very similar on the A/C system for Big Blue. I'm going serpentine/poly-groove on it using a 1990 system and have run into the same problems. And the good news is that if you have the full '95 system it'll work.

First, the '95 system will have an FS10 compressor that is said to be much better than the FS6 on your '84. But it takes completely different hoses than the '84 system, so unless you want to have custom hoses made you'll want to use the whole '95 system.

However, you'll find that the '95 evaporator probably has a tab on it that prevents it from going into the underhood HVAC housing on your '84. Never fear, the guys assure me that the '90 underhood housing will bolt right on, so I think your '95 housing should as well. But, you don't have to change your in-cab housing.

Gary, keep in mind I have a 1996 system in Darth, the complete 1995 system is the same, a factory R134a system.

That is music to my ears guys! As far as the underhood housing, I would need to swap everything from firewall forward correct? There seems to be three main pieces to the underhood housing. 1) the section the covers the half of the evaporator closest to the engine 2) the section that houses the other half of the evaporator and the blower motor 3) the section in the corner of the fender and firewall that appears to house the blend door.

Could I get get away with swapping the first two sections and leaving the section in the corner?

I think you have to swap all three, but don't know yet for sure. But, from the engine, #1 and 2 certainly need to be swapped.

I have the stuff on the work table in the shop, and I have the Bullnose stuff as well, so will check it out tomorrow.

There are only two sections, and they don't swap between trucks. The access door for the accumulator from a bricknose doesn't fit the bullnose housing as Gary has recently discovered. Further more, the blower motor from your bullnose won't fit the bricknose housing, the holes don't line up. I don't know if you can rig it to make it work or not. It's best just to use the complete 1995 system in your truck.

As always, Shaun is correct. Here's a head-on shot of my 1990 underhood HVAC plenum. Two parts - the cover on the right and the rest of it. And you can see where the tab of the evaporator comes through between the cover and the plenum.

Its getting hot here also and why I may not drive the truck much more.

Right now I am not liking you guys too much :nabble_smiley_sleep:

I have found that the 84 compressor I have to use for the V belt and the hoses that fit it don't fit the evap / drier of my 81 system :nabble_smiley_cry:

I was told of a compressor, not for a Ford but bolts to the Ford brackets, and hoses that should work but I am a little leery of going that way.

I have to buildup the bank book a little after the over drive before I can get on this AC thing.

1981, your truck probably had the old 2 cylinder York or Tecumseh compressor.
