Nice console Jim! I would rock something like that!

In other news, I have my new radio installed. It came out of an Escort, so I had to modify the mounting brackets a bit, but that's all hidden behind the bezel.

Nice clean install Cam! :nabble_smiley_good:

I've got to say my joinery has improved since I was a kid knocking together scrap on a jobsite, but not everybody is into dovetails or lock miters.

Would you have a preference of wood?

Mahogany, maple, cherry or walnut are what I likely have kicking around in widths that would be useful.

Probably maple if I had to choose. Are you going to build me one? If so, how much do you need to get paid? Or parts trade?

I need to poke around for some wider shorts with nice figure, like flame or fiddleback.

You have to cut around that stuff when building cabinets.

The console is 12" and 8" high.

The 'front porch' is about 4.5 x 2.25"

ETA: I've just realized it looks like a Jeep, if I had put one more cassette slot in.

How I hadn't seen that before is beyond me.

A Jeep! That’s funny, it would.

A Jeep! That’s funny, it would.

Right before we moved, I replaced all the belts. Ever since, the truck has not run quite the same. It will start right up like usual and has its normal fast idle for the first minute or so. But when warm, when idling in drive, the tach shows the idle speed at about 300-400 RPM and the engine has a slight shudder. It seems like the idle speed should be higher than that, and it should idle smoother. Since this started, I dialed the timing in as close as possible to 10 BTDC, replaced the plugs, cap and rotor, PCV, air filter and fuel filter. I also cleaned the carb and checked the vacuum, which is showing 20 in Hg, normal. Thoughts?

Hard to believe it would idle at 300 - 400 RPM, but probably only the 300 six would do that. However, I'd bet it would have a slight shudder.

You obviously don't have a vacuum leak, and 20" of vacuum is ok, although if you get the RPM up it should be more like 21".

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed up?

No I have not adjusted it yet. I think there is a possibility that the tach reads 100-200 RPM too low, since I also hooked up a tach/ dwell meter when I first got the tach to work.

I have not adjusted the idle speed up yet, because I didn't want to mess up anything computer controlled.

Adjusting the curb idle speed should not affect the computer. My son's 1984 4.9L with original computer control is set at 10 degrees BTDC and the idle speed is about 650-700 RPMs.
