Rear slider gasket

Recommended Posts

Good job on finding the OEM Ford 1994 - 1996/7 slider window, Chief! :nabble_smiley_good:

I have one of these on Lucille as well. This is a worthwhile upgrade, because it looks very much like the original 1982 - 1986 window, only better. As you pointed out, the latch is a much improved design over the older version. It can actually be used as a handle without breaking!

When I installed the newer slider, I replaced the one-piece black seal with the earlier 1982 - 1986 Bullnose version with the chrome lock strip. It fits the later slider perfectly, and looks more period-correct. Especially if you have a Lariat model. If you wish to use the earlier style, here are the part numbers I used:

Rear seal with groove for chrome lock strip:

E2TZ1042084A

Chrome lock strip:

D7TZ1042430A

Chrome joint clip:

D7TZ1042436B

I don't say this enough, but you all ROCK! thanks :)

To keep it all in this thread -

Got the E0TZ fixed glass with trim gasket today from RTRW. Another Dennis Carpenter one. Fit around the CRL slider as expected.

Myrle - do you recall if your CRL slider had plastic pieces glued(?) in the bottom corners? I assume they are to help seal and push out those corners a bit but just wanted to make sure I don't need to pop them off.

Speaking from personal experience, and as Ive mentioned before, you absolutely need those corners to get the window to seal.

CRL can only bend the extrusion so tight before it collapses..

The plastic makes up the difference in those acute corners

Thanks Jim.

They seemed pretty secure on there so figured they stayed.

On the chrome rope - does that go in before the window is installed in the truck or after?

After.

Thought I would try to keep this all in one thread, but as an FYI I wanted to confirm something for the next person, especially since both Steele and Rubber the Right Way have updated/changed their websites to be less specific/informative.

I haven't installed it yet, but it appears the master weather-strip kit from RTRW for 1980-86 Ford Trucks will NOT kit a rear factory slider from 1980 or 1981 with the aluminum frame (I expected this). I am making an assumption that the wide gap faces outward into the cab frame with the longer lip on the exterior. this means the inward facing slit/gap is for the window, and is barely thinker than a normal pane of glass.

(As expected) I'll be ordering the 70s part number gasket (DXXXXXXXXXXXXX).

Does the 1980-1981 aluminum factory slider fit in the same gasket/seal used for the plain back window? That is what came with the Fairchild kit....a seal to fit the plain glass rear window.

No

The factory slider frame is 3/4" thick (or more)

Aftermarket sliders use a skinny flange that fits in a single pane (fixed glass) gasket
