WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

In about 30 minutes I will be heading about 4 hours south to get my first in person look at Florida Man's former truck. I'll be parting it out this weekend and then bringing back what I need/want and the rest will be going to the scrapper. :nabble_anim_jump:

Where the heck is it?

Four hours, I'd think you would be heading into the Keys.

You've obviously seen something worth saving!

But man, that rig is toast.

Have a safe trip, Shaun! :nabble_smiley_wink:

I've noticed a few quirks with my truck in the past few days.

The high beam indicator is not working. (Fogs pointed this out, as my fogs don't work with the high beams on)

I also have my headlight adjustment out of whack from when I got backed into at a stop sign.

The trucks seemed sluggish, and the few frosty mornings we've had it didn't want to start.

I thought this was down to choke adjustment.

But NO, my accelerator pump doesn't work.

It had a pitted bore when I bought and rebuilt it.

I think my shade tree fill and rebore has done it in.

So, I'll order a new metal plunger but if it's xXxX, I will put the 750 4160 back on there.

I never had problems with that carb..

Not good, Jim! Carb problems are no fun, but an accelerator pump problem is almost a killer. Sorry! Time to put the Holley on?

On the high beams, is it your dimmer switch? The lows work but the highs don't?

When I got the AVS it looked like it had lived at the bottom of a lake.

Cleaned up okay but the piston bore was pitted.

I filled it with JB weld and reamed it with a dowel wrapped in wet-or-dry.

If you remember the rebuild kit had a plastic plunger that snapped.

On Bills advice I got one with a brass shaft and a blue (silicone) piston.

But if obviously isn't working now.

$7.95 for a new plunger, but it the epoxy came out I'm just going to pull the old carb off the shelf and hope for the best.

Both beams work.

I need to pull the cluster because the indicator is burnt out.

I'm sorry if I've been blinding anyone.

I tried JB Weld on the Holley on my first Super Bee. Didn't hold up. My guess is that yours didn't either. Bummer.

As for the headlights, both beams work but not the indicator. Ahh, now I see. :nabble_smiley_wink:

I'm up, so I may as well go out there and pull my cluster.

If there is an incandescent bulb in there I'll swap it for LED.

It was hard frost for a couple of mornings when the truck didn't want to fire without a shot of ether.

Then the past couple of days it's a bit warmer and very foggy to and from work.

My left headlight alignment is off too, so I have to see why that is

I'm thinking when the woman pushed my bumper in and my fender back it might have bent the radiator support or cracked the plastic base of the Bricknose headlight.

If I have to pull the Edelbrock I will probably go to the hobby store and get a piece of brass tube the right ID and sleeve that bore.

Would be a lot easier with a milling machine than my drill press.

But such is the life of a shade tree mechanic.

Well, it's not the bulb.. :nabble_smiley_cry:

I may go looking for the flex circuit from another thread since I can get intermittent continuity by pressing on various places.

And I can't coin my reverse flare --> 8mm barb for my 750 Holley.

Not getting any of this resolved on a Sunday morning.....

Bummer! Any chance of soldering a jumper on the flex circuit?

What is "coin"?

I could try, but the flex is delaminating in many places.

Coin is autocorrect.

You will find that I cannot find the barb fitting that i need to swap my old carb back in.

I figured it was an autocorrect problem, but assumed that it had to be something close to "coin". Never would have guessed "find". :nabble_smiley_oh_no:

On the circuit, if you can jumper from near the connector to near the bulb it might work for a while. How different are the '87 circuits?
