WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

There are six relays, 5x30A & 1x40A

High, low, fog, horn are 30, and I ran the 40A to the PMGR.

Primarily because the starter documentation showed 40A to pull -and 13A to hold- the solenoid.

ETA: I think I'm going to run the last relay to the blower motor.

I had been having starter problems with failure to engage a few weeks ago, and being broke as a joke I took the old starter I keep around for core and used the nosecone and planetary gears from it. (It had a needle bearing instead of a bushing to support the outboard end)

Washed the guts out of this one with contact cleaner, lubed it all up and rattlebombed the resulting Frankenstarter.

New HMEG was screwed and glued to the side of the housing.

I like that it all fits without having to remove the stock jack or battery tray, but it is tight inside.

Gary's asked me to document this, so I imagine I will give it its own thread in the garage sometime soon.

.. .When I can use Google photos instead of peering at thumbnails on my phone.

Better explaining details like: why I would choose a solder splice v/s a marine crimp in different situations.

Figuring the wire gauges, and how to derate them, stuff like that...

"Hey Dad, Remember the Christmas you set the truck on fire?"

Well today after all the rewiring of the MSD that I did the other day, I got to replace it with a new Dura Spark II module from Autozone today after it decided to quit working. I do have to say that it has worked well for me for the last 18 years that I have had it and it was well used when I got it. In fact the parts counter people had never heard of the MSD 6T 6400 as they are much younger than I am. I do believe it had been on it's last legs for some time as the little stumble at idle is now gone. I am hoping to see a fuel mileage increase now as it seems to be running much smoother than it was. A lifetime warranty on their Duralast Dura Spark module is a nice bonus as well.

Jim - I'm looking forward to your writeup.

Mark - What a Christmas present. NOT!

Frank - If the engine is running more smoothly then you really did have an ignition problem. Surely that will show up in better fuel mileage, but let us know.

The past two weeks or so it had been having a bit of sputter/stumble in the idle that I had noticed therefore the new plugs and other things getting done and then the last two times I went to town it had two episodes that resulted in an engine stall. I have also have seen my gas gauge drop more rapidly on this tank of gas which I am certain will be reversed now. At least I was trying to go to town rather than losing my ignition while on the way to town or on my way back home.

Well, now we know the way to clean up the tach signal from an MSD box..... :nabble_smiley_wink:

I used my front hitch for the first time, and now I never want to be without one...

I got our Streamline camper nestled in next to our new bedroom/studio. It is parallel within 1/4” over 24 feet. 😁

Yep, once used they are a must to have. 👍

Today I adjusted the tie rod turning the adjustment sleeve to shorten the drivers side tie rod which centered my steering wheel while driving down the road now. It also feels better while driving. I also installed an under hood light that I picked up some where. It was originally a trunk light and has a mercury switch so it turns off when I close the hood.

Good job Frank!

I have an 1156 and a toggle in my hood.

Maybe I should put one of my mercury switches to work too?

Hope to pull my bumper off and weld in my fog lights today.

The pack of stainless 6x1 JIS screws came from Amazon Saturday.
