WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

Yep, now that you mention it I did.

But you think this might be a head gasket problem? Yipes! That's a horse of another color.

Im not sure why the timing case sprung a leak.

You'd think the radiator cap would let go first, if it was overpressure.

But I really was flogging the old mare this morning on my way to the laundromat.

Well, corrosion is why it sprang a leak....

I have two options:

Replace; $129 and 3 days.

JB Weld; $7.69 and wait over night.

Hmmmmm. 🤔

At least all the stainless bolts and PST did their job.

It needs a new speedisleeve too

I'm debating the best way to get the old one off.

That would explain it, Jim. I'm guessing the JB Weld is going on tonight?

By the way, do you have a part number for the stainless bolt package? I need to order one.

Yep, I waited for the NAPA driver to drop the parts (2 gallons of antifreeze and a fresh radiator cap, with the FelPro set)

Then I walked down to Wal-Mart and grabbed some glue and another can of brake cleaner.

95 and muggy today. That sucked.

But the JB Weld is on and I'm calling it a night

I can see if my eBay purchase history goes back that far, but you are efi so none of the valve cover or intake bolts would be right.

And the serpentine front dress is completely different too.

I suppose the oil pan, timing case and waterpump bolts *should work.

But why not get a kit specific to EFI 460's?

I haven't found an EFI-specific kit, but I haven't looked too hard. I need to do that, soon.

Any ideas on best course of action to replace a worn Speedisleeve?

I don't have my oxy acetylene setup, but I could hit it with propane.

I just don't want to grab it with pliers and crimp it tighter.

I'm considering using a dremel disc and peeling it off.

Since you are going back on with a Speedisleeve then it isn't the end of the world if you nick the crank. So I think I'd use the Dremel.

Actually it is on the hatchet counterweight behind the harmonic damper.

I did repaint my timing marks and pointer! 😇

And a quick shot of New Ford Gray on the block, heads, water pump and case.

Some semi black on the fan and brackets.

Ill get some Pic's when the sun comes up and the coyotes go away.

It will be another sticky day, but at least it's coming together, instead of apart.
