WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

Frank - Today's the day! Hope all goes well. :nabble_anim_claps:

Jim - Sorry to see that. Is the '87 door much the same as the Bullnose? IIRC, I did Big Blue's through the glove box and radio area, with those items removed. Was literally a huge pain, and I had the cuts and scratches to prove it.

I don't know, and I don't care.

I'm not interested in fighting with keyhole surgery.

That's why I said that. If I had it to do over I'd not do it that way again.

A pull a part snag for today $13, column shroud, and shifter indicator assy. Shroud had a giant clamp holding it in place so not careful removing, threw it aside ( figured it was no good). When I got the indicator out, checked the shroud and it looked OK so took it too. Looking for trip speedo lens, truck had what appeared to be original wheels, and caps in good condition. BTW, I checked the shifter before removing.

I'm really surprised you found a good working trans shift indicator cable. Over time the plastic tubing becomes brittle. If that does not work out for you, remember our member here "thisoldpart". He is reproducing the cable assembly. I purchased one of his cables and am very pleased with it.

Did a little interior work this weekend. Found a piece of carpet for the back wall of my truck. It was originally red. Can you paint carpet? Yep, with this stuff you can. Though I've seen some on YouTube paint the entire interior carpet with this stuff, I wouldn't. But, for what I'm doing with this and where it is going, no brainer.

Also did a little work on my map light. The chrome on my light was badly pitted but the guts were good. Found a map light locally that had good chrome but the guts needed replacing. Made the exchange by drilling out the rivets holding it all together and exchanging components. Drilled out the four main rivets and then tap drilled to 10-24 screw size and used four 10-24 screws to hold it together. Was pleased in how that worked out.

Lastly, cleaned up, painted, and added a little bling to my pedals.

Looks great, John! Painting the carpet at the back was, as you said, a no-brainer. It won't have traffic on it so should last quite well.

The dome light looks excellent. Are you going with LEDs?

And the pedals look fancy! I did something quite similar on my '58 Impala back in the 60's. Loved them.

Top notch on all of it John!

Machspeed, What did you get the light out of? Looking for more inside light in my bull.

Spit & polish, nitpickin, etc, don't care what you call it, you got it looking good, just keep chippin away.

I'll be glad when the weather gets where you can count on a good day for doing "stuff".

Bill

Thats the same style LED bulb I used on my dome light on my truck. It provides better light but its not that great as my truck still sports the white plastic lens and not the clear lens. Im on the fence about buying a NOS white plastic lens with the hopes its a little more translucent like the white lens on my '56 Fairlane was or just go with the clear lens. I also kind of thinking about the stick on LED light strips and terminate it in a T10 wedge bulb base to make it plug and play on the inside of the dome light housing.

This is mine at night time.

Aside from that I myself am transcribing my engine specs to a engine notepad I am starting as I wait for a email with the short block specs to be emailed to me to give the ok on and get my short block in line to be built.
