Reamer, I was assuming you are working on the "Dash Patch". If they are good to go I would like to buy one from you.

Thanks

Grumpin - Ron got that done a couple of years ago - I think. (I did the CAD work and it was long enough ago I had to re-learn 3D CAD for the fog light bezel.)

I think he was using Shapeways to print it, but said something recently about a new/cheaper place to have it done, so you may be the guinea pig on that one.

As for what I did on/for/to my truck today, not much. However, I did recover enough of the 3D CAD knowledge to create this, which will be for Big Blue when we get all the details worked out. :nabble_smiley_happy:

Hey guys it is I, the glorious Smokenchoken in all my annoying overall wearing goodness... update on projects some might know and others might enjoy sadly no Bullnoses but the 7deuce is alive and well and just became my DD again for reasons I'll explain later... 7deuce is my 72 Ranger xlt long bed black and chrome 390 10 to 1 compression C6ae-r heads ported and polished with oversize valves and hardened valve seats with edelbrock performer intake ported to match, C6, 2.75 gears and 35s... Last week I finished Red Dawg my 78 Ranger longbed from her crazy upgrade, the 400 ish hp 460 is out and mothballed away forfuture use and in its place a 429 that dyno'd at 647 hp when it was built, C6, 2.75 gears and a set of 28x15x15w MT Slicks that I have yet to set my times with but it's quite quick ;) ... and then my most recent addition to my stable a 93 ranger shortbed with a 67 352 FE and a 65 3 speed toploader and currently trying a 205 divorced transfer case reversed as an overdrive unit along with the 8.8 with 4.10s it gives it the equivalent of 2.09 gears and with its 295-50-15s it gives a nice 1700 rpm for 65mph... much left to be finished but that's how projects go... the 352 used to get 16+ mpg Religiously in a 67 F100 with a c6 3.00 gears and 33s so my first goal is 20 mpg and I think the 1000 lb loss and increased factory aerodynamics alone will get it close if my gears work out as planned

Welcome to *this* forum Eli! :nabble_anim_handshake:

Sadly, I did nothing to my truck today except put another 100+ miles on it.

Wow,I take a few days off to do some outside work on the house to take advantage of the uncommonly good weather, and I miss 3D dash speaker cover prints, fog light bezels, and some great project updates. I need to check back more often.

I had a few minutes of daylight when I got home, so I finished the WeatherPack harness redo of the hacked trailer wiring. Although I'm glad I did it, I still didn't have any back up lights when put in reverse.

I ducked back under, followed the wire to the connector, then to the switch. It appeared intact, but it was not reading any voltage when I engaged the gear. I went to NAPA and picked up a new back up lamp switch ,

(for anyone else with a manual transmission, the part is common across the NP435, T18 & T19 per the parts staff. In practice, it takes a 7/8 deep-well socket and small extension to reach the blind spot where it's located- on the drivers side of the transmission, about a palm's width rearward of the visible landmark where the shift lever goes through the cab floor)

I swapped the switch, connect the harness, but still no back-up lamps light. I test the wire again, & still no voltage. I took the old switch into the kitchen to test for continuity and resistance, but then notice something looks funny (below). A moment later, and my pliers pull out a broken female terminal from the harness (below).

A quick reference to Gary's connector page and I identify the connector in the 3rd pic below. (Thanks again Gary!) However, when I try to find it on Motorcraft's site, it pushed me to FordParts.com, and I couldn't locate it via description or part number.

I found 2 choices for aftermarket harness on RockAuto, so unless anyone here has a suggestion where I can find the Motorcraft pigtail new, I'll take my chances on the aftermarket and see if it finally solves the problem.(Edit: On a whim I checked out Amazon- Who knew?)

That makes it even easier. I'd go with the one from Amazon. I'm a one-click fan. :nabble_smiley_evil:

Well, if Huck is my truck:

  • Pulled the power steering bracket and pump off and removed the pump from the bracket. Found that the bracket is broken, but the one from Jim isn't. So, I have a complete serpentine system for Big Blue.:nabble_smiley_whistling:

  • Laid out the hydro-boost stuff from Jim and it looks like I only have to get one more hose to make it work. And, that will fix one of the problems on Big Blue since his master cylinder leaks at the gasket 'cause it is rusted. So, not only will I have better brakes but I'll have one of the new plastic master cylinders with a screw-on lid. In fact, it is bigger master than was on Huck. :nabble_smiley_grin:

  • Got the cruise control and throttle linkage off, and discovered that it should work perfectly on Big Blue since he has the old-school cruise control system. And, the throttle cable should also be a perfect fit, but I don't think one of the Bullnose cables would work, so that's serendipitous. After all, it is a looooong way to the North Rim. :nabble_smiley_wink:

  • Pulled the sun visors out with their inner brackets. Originally they were blue, just like Big Blue, but they are ...... "gross", in all of the 60's connotations of that word. Maybe carpet shampoo will clean them as they aren't vinyl but a soft fabric.

  • Got the shift linkage all the way from the tranny to the steering column. And, to get the linkage out of the plastic grommets I used a trick that the guy at the tranny shop suggested - heat. Sure enough,

the heat gun made the grommets soft enough that I was able to pull the linkage out and can probably re-use the grommets.

So, basically I think I've pulled all of the parts off of Huck that I need to pull. But, Bill mentioned something about the HVAC system. Surely that won't fit the Bullnose trucks?

Also, I haven't pulled the steering column. It is a tilt column, but I suspect that the dreaded part is broken as the lock tumbler has been removed and a starter button was rigged up. But, is there a chance that I'll need it for the E4OD shifter part?

Gary, HVAC, the firewall openings are exactly the same, the inner distribution system is much better, take a look at the mode and blend doors also the controls, those lack the provision for the tank selector as it is on the dash. Since you are going to the later belt system and compressor, you are going to need the underhood portion and lines.

Column, as long as the inner portion of the actuator isn't broken you should be able to use it and have the tilt wheel which will help driving comfort on the "long way to the North Rim". The 1985 switch and mounting bracket will fit, or you could use it in Dad's so you have the E4OD shift linkage and tilt wheel.

Ok, Bill, I'll pull the HVAC system. But I really don't want to change anything. You are saying I'll have to change the underhood part due to changing the compressor? Bummer! Is it that the lines need to be longer or have different fittings?

On the column, Big Blue already has a tilt column, and I have one for Dad's truck as well. But, I'll pull this one anyway.

Thanks.
