WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

I assume by "the page here describing the front end grille" you mean the one at Documentation/Fasteners & Illustrations/Radiator & Grille. On that page there is at least one of those captive nuts shown with a blue box around it. If you click that blue box it'll take you to the page for 385579-S2, and that page says "This is a stamped Tinnerman/U-nut that is for a #8-18 screw. It is 11/32" wide and .41" thick, and has a black phosphate finish. Fastenal has them as #11120280 and Auveco has them as 10666."

Today I drove my truck to NAPA to pick up some parts - air filter, fuel filter, windshield wipers. Also tried to pick up the new ignition switch and ignition cylinder I had ordered, but somehow those parts weren't available - I'll have to go back and get them.

Interestingly, today I didn't have to do the duct tape trick, the engine stayed running after start with no intervention on my part. Even wiggling and rotating the key a little didn't cause problems, a sharp contrast from this weekend where I had to tape the cylinder in a very precise position. Curiouser and curiouser...

It was a good suggestion, but I would be surprised if it were a lubrication problem - Gary is correct that it's been nice and warm here lately, and it was warm all weekend as well. As far as I can tell everything is moving freely.

Over the last week or so finally put the stone guards on my headlights, rain visors and black/red KC covers on. Still need to do running boards and cab lights and visually oll be just about happy with it. I also need to order a new rear plate bracket with a light from LMC now that I put my old bumper back on the rear of the truck, put extended stainkes sbrqke hoses on the front, add the extra 2 shocks and relocation brackets for the sway bar and then figure out what I'm doing with the suspension. The left rear leaf pack is sagging about 1.5" over the passenger side and was more noticeable after the lift was done. I didn't do an alignment yet but I have a plan, since the 4" lift wtill had 2.5 degrees of negative camber. Instead of changing the camber bushings right now, I need to change rear springs, so I was thinking about putting the stock rear blocks back in and getting a set of light duty 6600 gvw F250 rear springs which will basically give me 3 inches of lift in the back and with the stock blocks being I think 2" itll put me at 5-6 inches in the back. The front has 4" in it now, but I was thinking about adding in a 2" coil spacer which would give me 6 in the front leveling the truck out and giving me a bit more tire clearance since the right side rubs from the sagging leaf spring. This would give me a total of 5 in the back and 6 in the front, while still using the 4" bolt holes in the drop brackets. Even if it ends up being 6/6 the back being an inch higher doesn't bug me. Doing some math, each inch in the front equal to about 1 degree of camber, so a 2 inch spacer block would effectively fix my camber issue as well.

Interesting approach, Angelo. Hope it works. But the truck is looking good. :nabble_smiley_good:

Thanks Gary. I'm debating on taking the air deflector off from under the bumper too. Thoughts?

I tell you what, I don't have a problem finding that thing at Walmart in the parking lot!!

I wouldn't take the deflector off. It looks good and every little bit helps on MPG.

And I fully understand about finding it in the parking lot. Big Blue certainly doesn't hide either. :nabble_smiley_wink:

Today, I spent money... After almost two years of searching the Web, and waiting for Dennis Carpenter to re-stock a back-order reproduction unit, there was a used one punching out of eBay this morning.

This was the last part I was desperately looking for, without any success.

I jumped on it, no time to hesitate.

I bought OEM 8' Top Bed Side Rails for Big Brother. Cost an arm and a leg, I know. Strictly emotional, absolutely no intelligence involved in that move. :nabble_money-flying-23_orig:

But I finally got it. :nabble_smiley_evil:

They look nice, although with some "life scratches". I will consider to send them to a chrome refurbish shop, we'll see.

Congrat's! I've always liked the looks of those. :nabble_anim_claps:

OMG Angelo! If only we could have realized this before!

:nabble_smiley_scared:

I sent another post two months ago, without success...

It's really sad!

If my eBay buy is a flop, maybe your kit could fit better, who knows?

I will post my "rails journey" on this thread:

And that is exactly the way things seem to go for me.....LOL! I have, on occasion, actively searched months for a part, finally find it, and end up paying way more than I want to out of desperation. Right after acquisition of said part, I find multiple in better condition and way cheaper.....ARGHHHH!!!
