jarwood Posted September 13, 2019 Share Posted September 13, 2019 retired millwright first truck was 64 f100 moved up to 73,2-80s 89,93,95,13,and 14. had 80 and 93 broncos all trucks 1/2 tons. enjoy my fords now i have a 84 f150 to play with. really like the info on this site. the 84 f150 4x4 302 4 speed when i start the truck everything is good when the truck is run for a while and turned off it wont start sounding like bad battery or bad drag in starter. have replaced battery solinoid starter checked alternator then replaced ignition switch and key tumbler. it still does the same thing when you let it set an hour or so it starts up like its new again. adjusted timing also. anybody had experience with this or a cure Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Perhaps you are close to one of use and we could help? Also, it is easier to help if we know what the truck is. You've told us something about it here, but the memory of that will fade and we'll forget. But if you were to tell us what it is in a signature we'd not have to ask. On the hard starting when the engine is hot, which is what I think you said, that is frequently a bad starter. And in that case it usually drags internally when the starter gets hot and expands, which is what you were suggesting. But you said you've replaced it - right? So, then to the next thing I've seen, which is a bad connection. A cold engine is easier to start than a hot engine, and a poor connection might start the engine when cold. If you have a voltmeter try the test described here to find problems in the wires or connections: Documentation/Electrical/Voltage Drop Testing. How about the battery to ground and starter cables? Make certain all connections are clean and tight. You can also check to see that the timing retard while cranking function is working. These DSII modules are suppose to pull the timing back to help the starter turn the truck over. But I would do a voltage drop test on both the starter cable and ground as a first diagnostic step. Both things start with clicking on your name or pic below the name. Then click Account Settings. For the pic click on Change Your Picture. But if you are on a device w/o a keyboard that becomes difficult if not impossible after that. If you don't have a computer with a keyboard let me know and I'll help.
