I've never heard of a Tonka package for a Ford truck. Not saying they wouldn't, but why would they?

Um...because it's awesome? There aren't too many special editions out there that interest me, but I'd totally drive a Tonka Truck.

Of course it's probably priced accordingly, but still.

Is it $110K worth of awesome? https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/ford-f150-tonka

I grant that 700 HP sounds good, but for the price....

Jim, HA I didnt take anything you said as a critique, certainly not. You jokingly refered to me as a kid, and I took it as a joke. I was simply dreaming out loud, thinking about the simple "kid" days....

Its ALL good in the hood.....and under it too.

Yes sir!

Just didn't want you to think I was belittling you, Ray.

While we're on the subject of new Ford trucks, https://jalopnik.com/why-the-ford-super-duty-s-7-3-liter-v8-makes-only-430-h-1836880836/amp

Why?

How?

WTH Ford? Get on it!

I could see if this was the base engine for a race class that had to use a stock block.

Otherwise, Tonka toys??? Only if you make it a Donk! :nabble_thumbs-down-23_orig::nabble_thumbs-down-23_orig::nabble_thumbs-down-23_orig:

That article was written by people who obviously have never driven a real truck.

That article says:

“With average lighter load as far as what the engine could potentially do, temperatures go down, pressures go down, wear of all the components go down,” he said. “When you boost an engine, you’re increasing the internal pressures and temperatures... you’re working the engine really hard.”

But what it doesn't say is that engines can be designed for the boost. My 3.5L EB was, and has been tested in really harsh conditions and survived. And, as I've said, I'd much prefer to tow with that than Big Blue's 7.5L. The smaller engine's turbos give the low RPM torque that's needed, and when you take it to the mountains you don't lose any power nor economy. And, speaking of economy, it gets the same towing as Big Blue does running light.

EXACTLY, Shaun!

These hipsters wouldn't know an F-650 if it drove up their 🍑

I'll give you an interesting one, my son has a 2002 Excursion, 4WD with the V10 and 3.73 rear. We did a comparison of effective gearing (he has the 4R100) and the larger tires on the Excursion vs Darth's tires, he has a slight edge in effective gearing.

Excursion grosses 7600 lbs vs Darth at 6400 lbs, he is running 4 wheels on the road, and has the auto-locking front hubs so normally he is not turning the 4WD components.

He towed his old F150 down to Chesapeake VA from Falling Waters WV, on the route he takes, he has to cross the Blue Ridge Mountains on US 17 East of Winchester VA. He had to be in 2nd to get over that, and several more climbs same issue. Darth towing a similar load (heavy, probably 2K trailer loaded with my garage doors and other items, plus a fully loaded bed) on the uphill portions on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, went down to 3rd and walked the load right on up at 54 mph in 3rd lockup.

Difference is simple, torque peaks, 460 peak is around 2200 rpm (Darth in 3rd lockup), V10 peak is 3250 rpm, which is why he was in 2nd, he couldn't reach his peak in 3rd, so the EEC dropped him to 2nd.

This is why many of the big luxury cars could deliver pretty decent gas mileage on the highway (Mercury Turnpike Cruiser) but were terrible in town. On the trucks, Ford's new 7.3L gas V8 has a pretty flat torque curve from around 2000 rpm to about 4500 rpm. The newer multi-gear transmissions (Ford/GM shared 10 speed) are to allow more gear choices to keep the engine at it's "sweet spot" for both power and economy.

Welcome to the WEEKEND! :nabble_anim_jump:

Those of use who are retired appreciate the help remembering what day it is. You see, we have 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday, and the hard part is remembering which Saturday is the one before Sunday. :nabble_anim_confused:

I guess you are saying today is that day. Thanks!

I used to say "You can have it the second Tuesday of next week"

You're telling me, there are no Tuesday's? :nabble_anim_confused:
