Is that a TV show reference? A bit before my time I think.

What are you doing for wiring on Dad's truck Gary? I haven't had time to catch up on any of your projects recently, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. I don't want wiring older than me on my truck, so I'm leaning towards new, just not sure how yet. LMC sells a universal kit for reasonable money. I saw a link to a custom setup on FTE, but it's more than twice the price!

Still, not cheap. And still double a universal kit. Would probably save headaches, but a few headaches are probably not a bad trade for a $700 saving.

Anyway, some time yet to procrastinate. First I have to get the ball joints out. I've got a loaner kit from AAP, hopefully that will do the trick.

It's kinda reassuring how easy the seemingly most difficult jobs can be with the right equipment... Makes me think that all is right with the world, which is probably isn't, but at least for that short moment while the nut breaks loose, or the ball joint pops out!

The rubber part of the axle bushing came out super easy. Most videos I've watch online indicate that the metal sleeve has to come out too, I have no idea how that is possible here... The edge is very obviously flared. Am I missing something???

It comes out from the other side, which shouldn't be flared.

Thanks Gary. The 'other' side was actually the flared part I was referring to though. With a 90 degree flange on the other end. Anyway, it just took a bit of hammering to get the tool to push it out. Without bending the edges in first the press only made the flare worse.

I'll be doing something similar to the D44 HD in my truck as soon as the weather stays above freezing for a couple of days.

New ball joints. I went with Mevotech, time will tell if that was a mistake.

But I do like that I can call and speak to someone about their product, as I had to do with the lower joints. The nuts were a real pain to get on...

This D44 spindle bearing and seal kit also baffled my mind. I replaced the spindle needle bearing and the seal(even though the new seal was rubber only with no metal casing), but these parts I couldn't figure out and I had no one to call about that.

The new 1.5" leveling coils also appears to have been a mistake, nothing aligns properly, hopefully it's still workable. I also got new rotor+hub combos for an excellent price on Rockauto. And MM hubs.

And yes, I went without these. I had been looking for replacements everywhere without success. Then I read that Gary was considering going without them on Big Blue, so I thought, if Gary can go without dust shields then so can I!

But I do like that I can call and speak to someone about their product, as I had to do with the lower joints. The nuts were a real pain to get on...

On the brake dust shields, it is Shaun's fault as he said I could do it. :nabble_smiley_evil:

On those seals, go here: Documentation/Driveline/Axles And Differentials and go to the Instructions and then Dana 44 tabs. That gets you the section from the factory shop manual.

As for the engine paint, how did you like the POR paint?
