Big Blue's Transformation

Recommended Posts

The ones I linked are Corney kegs (Cornelius)

Which puts them at 9". :nabble_smiley_cry:

But I see you have other options.

I don't know that I have other options, but will certainly check to see. However the 9" dimension is a concern since that doesn't allow two s-b-s. :nabble_smiley_sad:

But, I'll check nonetheless.

Also, what is meant by "ball lock posts and poppets"? Do you know what kind of connections they have? I can seem them well enough to be able to tell.

Do you remember keg parties?

A Budweiser tap wouldn't fit a Heiniken keg?

Same idea here except Coke vs Pepsi.

I figure either way you're going to tap it NPT, so does it matter?

I remember there were keg parties. But don't know anything about them nor how the kegs connect. However, I do have an NPT tap, so I guess it isn't a problem. :nabble_smiley_wink:

Hey mannn....

If you "remember" you weren't really there man....

Consider a Chevy (Coke) bell housing a Windsor pattern (Pepsi) bell housing.....

Does that fit the forum better?

Yes. But for those that don't understand, or maybe don't catch, what you said, a Chevy pattern is a Chevy pattern. Swap transmissions willy nilly. Been there, done that, and never thought it shouldn't work.

But a Ford pattern is not a Ford pattern, which is why you said "a Windsor pattern". An FE has a different pattern than a Windsor, which has a different pattern than a 385. And a 385 bolt pattern is the same as a 335 bolt pattern, but there are differences in the transmission input shaft lengths. All part of Ford's "better ideas". :nabble_face-with-open-mouth-vomiting-23x23_orig:

Well said. And I missed it. For some reason it reminds me of George Carlin. Wing seat. Near miss. Non-stop flight. Man, that guy was witty.

And, it reminds me of

Because I edited it in. :nabble_smiley_whistling:

So a poppet tap, and a ball lock post tap will not interchange.

Does the same job, but not compatible.

Coke and Pepsi had their vendors locked into their products.

Kinda like Apple & Microsoft.

Or a diesel spout won't fit a petrol car.

Jim - That isn't a stupid idea. It may be a sweet one. :nabble_head-rotfl-57x22_orig:

My calc's say that 25" in length and 8" in diameter gives 5.4 gallons. So two of them should fit nicely side-by-side 'tween the bed and the frame. And the length would be essentially perfect for fitting under the leading edge of the bed and not hit the spring hanger.

Ding, ding, ding!!! We may have a winner! Plus Steve and I know a guy who used to run a beverage and snack distribution business. And while what I know of their business was in stocking the machines that vend cans, perhaps they also do the ones that mix the soda? Worth checking out. Thanks!

Steve - Big Blue is certainly "heavy duty". In fact, except for the frame being maybe not being quite as big, everything else on the "transformed" BB will be F350-sized. But that doesn't mean I want to needlessly put heavy things on him. So, I'm intrigued by the beer keg.

Given that, the question is which one you have. Here's a table showing some of the sizes. Perhaps you can determine what it is?

Lol, I looked away for a couple days and missed my opportunity to respond. The keg I have must be the "beveled barrel" type. Pretty large, and I forget what your plan might be with the gas tanks, but in any case, maybe just all-around too large.

And then it all suddenly changed to ammeters...???

You'll see the artefact of this in the post headers starting on pg. 18, and then Gary mentions moving them from the alternator thread on pg. 19.

Responding to Gary's question that I overlooked: Gary, can you post a blowup of one of the gels?

I did pretty well finding a font for dad's air cleaner, except for the 'r' as Janey noted.

Let's test my recall of 40 years ago, again!

Maybe my condition can pull through in the clutch?

Edit: wow! Was it really 1/31/2015 ??? :nabble_smiley_hurt: *head explodes

You posted there too FoxFord.

Edit 2: print on clear and put the Wal-Mart red gel in first if you don't want to see into the light.

Certainly it will silhouette the opaque printing behind it.

Jim - I don't know when I'm going to have time to shoot a good pic of one of the gels so you can find the font, but I certainly will do it. And, I do appreciate the offer.

The issue is that things are about to get very BUSY for our family, and in a good way. We are going to have the whole family together for over a week, and we are in the count-down phase of that right now. :nabble_anim_jump:

Steve - It doesn't look like that barrel is going to work. The max height/girth I want is 8" and those things are much bigger - right?

All - Which takes me to my conversation yesterday with WelderScott and fabricator Ben about tanks and bottles. (Which, I should add, was cut short by someone coming by and reminding me that we had a meeting about to start. :nabble_smiley_sad:) Scott said that he'll give me plenty of the steel oxygen bottles as they've gone over to aluminum and no one wants them. The bottles are maybe 4" in diameter and 24" long, which my calculations say would be 1.3 gallons. I think I could put 4 of them side-by-side and stack them 2 high for a total of 8 bottles, which would be 10.4 gallons by my calcs.

On the other hand, Ben said he could make one-off tanks of any size. So, I could design two side-by-side 8" diameter tanks, one ~26" long and one ~36" long. And my calc's say that would give a total of 13.5 gallons. I could draw them up on CAD and include the brackets for mounting, probably to the frame, as well as the bungs into which I'd put the various fittings. And, I could include a skid plate.

And speaking of drawings, Ben said he hopes to get to my bumper soon. :nabble_anim_jump:
